[016] - FeedPod 0.2.2
  by Robert kebernet Cooper (http://freshmeat.net/users/kebernet/)
  Sun, Feb 27th 2005 03:05

Multimedia :: Sound/Audio :: Speech
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: FeedPod is a text-to-speech RSS1, RSS2, and  ATOM0.3 syndication
feed reader that can either play a feed over the Web using HTTP
streaming and a ShoutCast-style playlist, or generate a Podcast feed for
syncing to your portable MP3 player. It deploys as a Java WAR Web
application.

Changes: This release adds the baseUrl, allowHosts, and defaultFeed
parameters for restricting podcasts to just an intended host (see the
configuration document for details). This should make it much easier to
add a TTS podcast to your site. The internals were cleaned up a little so
now everything uses the RSS 2.0 feed. It no longer clobbers enclosures
already in a feed. Now if you request a feed that already has enclosures,
 they will be there and the new MP3 enclosures will be added onto the end
of each entry.

[021] - GNU Common C++ 1.3.6
  by David Sugar (http://freshmeat.net/users/davidsugar/)
  Sun, Feb 27th 2005 13:12

Software Development :: Libraries

About: Common C++ is a highly portable C++ class library meant primarily
for the development of portable threaded applications. Support is provided
both for POSIX platforms and native builds under Win32. The goal is to
provide a truly common C++ framework for writing portable threaded
applications that do not require a huge amount of runtime overhead to
support, and hence can make C++ and threads suitable even for the
development of trivial servers and applications.

Changes: Changes since 1.3.1 include greatly improved multi-cast socket
support for xBSD and w32 platforms, and this means multicast RTP offered
through ccrtp can now be used on these platforms. Initial support for
building on GNU/Hurd. A critical bugfix in assoc pointer objects.
Generally improved platform portability.

  by Robert Sowada (http://freshmeat.net/users/sowadart/)
  Sun, Feb 27th 2005 08:38

Communications :: Email
Desktop Environment :: Gnome

About: gnubiff is a mail notification program that periodically checks for
mail and displays headers when new mail has arrived. It supports multiple
mailboxes, pop3, apop, imap4, mh, qmail and mailfile, SSL and
certificates, GNOME with integration to the panel, GTK standalone,
automatic detection of mailbox format, mail header and content display,
PNG animation, HIG 2.0 compliance, and spam filtering.

Changes: This is a major bugfix release. There are also some new features.
The applet and popup window can be set to be sticky, kept above all other
windows, and not appear in pagers. Idling can be disabled for the IMAP4
protocol. The sorting order of headers in the popup window can be
configured. There is now out of the box support for FreeBSD. There is now
an expert editing mode for all options provided by gnubiff (including
internal options).

  Sun, Feb 27th 2005 23:24

Communications :: File Sharing
Security :: Cryptography
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: GNUnet is a peer-to-peer framework with focus on providing
security. All peer-to-peer messages in the network are confidential and
authenticated. The framework provides a transport abstraction layer and
can currently encapsulate the network traffic in UDP (IPv4 and IPv6), TCP
(IPv4 and IPv6), HTTP, or SMTP messages. GNUnet supports accounting to
provide contributing nodes with better service. The primary service build
on top of the framework is anonymous file sharing.

Changes: This is a bugfix release. It fixes problems with gnunet-insert
and libextractor (-x option), with uploading directories in gnunet-gtk and
various crashes of gnunetd (in particular when using libgcrypt). The
release also fixes various minor problems in the Win32 code, including
memory leaks.

About: Nmap Parser is a Perl module to ease the pain of developing scripts
or collecting network information from nmap scans. Nmap::Parser does its
task by parsing the information in the output of an nmap scan by using the
XML-formatted output. This module can perform an nmap scan and parse the
output automagically using parsescan(). It can parse an nmap XML file.
This module was developed to speed up network security tool development
when using nmap.

Changes: Ports that were declared as 'open|filtered' or 'closed|filtered'
have been fixed. These now are counted as both 'open' and 'filtered' (in
the first case), and 'closed' and 'filtered' in the second case when using
tcp_ports() and udp_ports(). A patch has been sent for XML::Twig in order
to fix warning messages. It is included in XML:Twig 3.16. start_str() and
time_str() have been added; they return the human readable format of the
scan start time and scan finish time (respectively). Updated for Nmap

certain state such as Accepted, Rejected, or Under Review. Old patches can
be sent to the archive or deleted.

Changes: The main focus of this release is initial (alpha) MySQL support,
as well as the existing PostgreSQL backend. Also, the email/patch parser

  Sun, Feb 27th 2005 03:03

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

About: potrace is a utility for tracing a bitmap (that is, transforming a
bitmap into a smooth, scalable image). The input is a portable bitmap
(PBM), and the default output is an encapsulated PostScript file (EPS). A
typical use is to create EPS files from scanned data, such as company or
university logos, handwritten notes, etc. The resulting image is not
"jaggy" like a bitmap, but smooth. It can then be rendered at any
resolution.

Changes: This release is 20-60% faster than the previous release. A new
PDF backend was added. An option to display a progress bar was added.
Some spurious "premature end of file" messages were eliminated. The core
functionality was separated into a library with a documented API, making

[057] - Redet 4.16
  by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
  Sun, Feb 27th 2005 19:54

Text Processing :: Linguistic

About: Redet (Regular Expression Development and Execution Tool) allows
the user to construct regular expressions and test them against input data
by executing any of a variety of search programs, editors, and programming
languages that make use of regular expressions. When a suitable regular
expression has been constructed it may be saved to a file. For each
program, a palette showing the available regular expression syntax is
provided. Selections from the palette may be copied to the regular
expression window with a mouse click. Definitions can be added to the
palette via an initialization file. As long as the underlying program
supports Unicode, UTF-8 Unicode is allowed in both test data and regular
expressions.

Changes: The major focus of this release is improvements in the history
system. Miscellaneous other improvements include a significant speedup of
match counting where there are large numbers of matches.

prior to encrypting it with gzip using the "rsyncable" patch, which is
available from the rsync sources.

Changes: This release adds support for "filelist": a file containing a
list of files and directories to encrypt.

[074] - webAlbum 2.2
  by Armando L. Caro Jr. (http://freshmeat.net/users/acaro/)
  Sun, Feb 27th 2005 19:55

About: webAlbum is a bash script for automatically generating Web-based
photo and video albums for publishing online or archiving on disk or CDs.
The generated HTML pages do not require any scripting support for viewing.
The script includes automatic thumb-nailing and resizing, image rotation,
captioning support, and CD preparation for Windows autorun. The resulting
album is a hierarchical tree structure of "albums" and "collections" of
albums with an intuitive navigation system.

Changes: The ancestor tree produced in the upper right corner sometimes
would break into two lines. This was fixed. It shouldn't break unless the
ancestor tree gets VERY long. Also, the dates are now excluded from this
tree, because it was redundant information and made it look ugly.
