[001] - Achievo ATK 5.1
by Ivo Jansch (http://freshmeat.net/users/ivoibs/)
Mon, Feb 28th 2005 14:15
Database :: API
Database :: Front-Ends
Information Management
About: Achievo ATK is an object oriented Web-application framework. It is
targeted at developers who wish to focus on business logic instead of
coding HTML. Where other application frameworks mainly provide a large set
of utility classes, ATK provides a complete framework that requires only
small amounts of code to get usable applications, while maintaining full
flexibility. In other words, even 10 lines of code get you a working
application, but everything that is generated for you can be completely
customized.
Changes: Several bugs were fixed. A PHP5 incompatibility was removed. A
new atkMetaNode is introduced to allow applications in 0 lines of code.
Debugging was improved. The PostgreSQL driver has been improved, and
several other enhancements have been made.

About: activeMailLib is a PHP class that can validate email addresses and
send MIME email messages using the PHP mail() function. It can generate
text or HTML email messages with user-defined headers, body parts, and
character encoding. File parts can also be attached to the messages. The
class can also perform email address validation based on a regular
expression. It can optionally check the addresses with the destination
SMTP server using the PHP getmxrr() function on Unix-like systems.

About: adesklets is an interactive Imlib2 console for the X Window system.
It provides to scripted languages a clean and simple way to write great
looking, mildly interactive desktop integrated graphic applets (aka
"desklets"). It can also be used as a command line oriented graphics
editor, a bit similar to ImageMagick, but with different functionality.
Changes: This release secures the use of optional adesklets.ConfigFile
class by completely changing the way config files are imported, removing
a potential security exploit.

About: Aeromys is an application that provides extremely fast access to
email through the Web. It accomplishes this by using predictive caching,
which means that information is retrieved from the mail server before it
is requested by the user. It is designed to be highly scalable, vastly
configurable, and extremely fast. The default front-end is written in PHP,
and the back-end engine is written in C.
Changes: Lots of internal changes were made, with a focus on creating the
infrastructure necessary for intelligent caching in future releases. Some
bugfixes were made.

by Adam Bernstein (http://freshmeat.net/users/numbr6/)
Mon, Feb 28th 2005 07:03
Communications :: Email :: Mailing List Servers
System :: Systems Administration
About: Approver is a set of scripts for automatically approving posts to
Majordomo-moderated mailing lists based on the sender's email address.
Approver also converts HTML email posts to plain text by first filtering
them through DEMIME, and it bounces all posts submitted to mailing lists
made by non-list members, preventing list moderators from being bombarded
by bogus submissions created by email worms and viruses originating from
list member's infected computers.
Changes: Support for multiple mailing lists was added by externalizing
storage of list approval passwords to a per list configuration file.
Debugging variables were cleaned up. Copyright information was added for

About: Barcode Writer in Pure Postscript implements the printing of many
barcode formats entirely within level 2 PostScript, so that the process of
converting the input string into the printed output is performed by the
printer itself. This avoids the need to re-implement the barcode
generation process whenever your language needs change. The project
supports most major barcode formats including EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E,
ISBN, Code 128 (A, B, and C), Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, Postnet, Code 2
of 5, and Codabar.

Desktop Environment
Desktop Environment :: Application Themes
Desktop Environment :: Application Themes :: Shells
About: cw is a non-intrusive real-time ANSI color wrapper for common
Unix-based commands. It is designed to simulate the environment of the
commands being executed, so that if a person types 'du', 'df', 'ping',
etc. in their shell it will automatically color the output in real-time
according to a definition file containing the color format desired. It
has support for wildcard match coloring, tokenized coloring,
headers/footers, case scenario coloring, command-line- dependent
definition coloring, and includes over 50 pre- made definition files.
Changes: The "cwe" command was added. The "supermap" definition
instruction and the "CW_SUPERMAP" environment variable check were added to
change the internal color format to a completely different color format,
such as HTML tags. The "lborder", "rborder", "forcecolor", "print",
"noeol", and "proctitle" definition instructions and "CW_LBORDER",
"CW_RBORDER", and "CW_RANDOM" environment variable checks were added.
Automatic proctitle support was added to improve process listing
appearance. Handling of user interrupts (CTRL-C) was changed. Multiple
bugs were fixed.

[013] - Conary 0.50.0
by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
Mon, Feb 28th 2005 14:16
Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup
About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.
Changes: Conary has now moved from Alpha to Beta. Trove redirections are
now available. Groups can have requirements. Troves built from recipes
that reference Arch flags are flavored by architecture, even if they have
no binary files. Group generation is faster.

by tlink (http://freshmeat.net/users/tlink/)
Mon, Feb 28th 2005 17:11
Text Processing
Text Processing :: General
Text Processing :: Markup
About: deplate is a tool for converting documents written in an
unobtrusive, wiki-like markup to LaTeX, HTML, "HTML slides", or DocBook.
It supports page templates, embedded LaTeX code, footnotes, citations,
bibliographies, automatic generation of an index, and table of contents.
It can be used to create Web pages and (via LaTeX or DocBook) high-quality
printouts from the same source. In this respect it is similar to tools like
aft or txt2tags. It aims to be modular and easily extensible, and is the
accompanying converter for the Vim viki plugin. In the family of wiki
engines, the choice of markup originated from the emacs-wiki.
Changes: At the core of this release is a rewrite of how formatters are
linked into the system. This change engenders a few new features.
Templates and LaTeX output (especially tables) were greatly enhanced.
Output can be styled, which is demonstrated in some new modules:
html-headings-navbar, numpara, mark-external-urls, and latex-styles. A
#Code region was added for displaying source code.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: eZ publish is an open source content management system and
development framework. As a content management system (CMS) it's most
notable feature is its revolutionary, fully customizable, and extendable
content model. This is also what makes it suitable as a platform for
general Web development. Its stand-alone libraries can be used for
cross-platform, database independent PHP projects. eZ publish is also well
suited for news publishing, e-commerce (B2B and B2C), portals, and
corporate Web sites, intranets, and extranets. eZ publish is dual licenced
between GPL and the eZ publish professional licence.
Changes: Support was added for user parameters in layout/set/ URLs. A PDF
view mode was added to CachedViewModes. It is now possible to include
additional PHP files for the simpletags operator. The 'content/hide'
access function was added, and can be used to give a user the ability to
hide or unhide nodes. Support was added for setting information collection

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Scientific/Engineering
About: JGraph is a robust and complete graph component that is better than
many of its commercial competitors. With the JGraph zoomable component, you
can display objects and relations (networks) in any Swing UI. It can also
be used on the server-side to read an GXL graph, apply a custom layout
algorithm, and return the result as an SVG image.
Changes: A number of performance improvements were made, particularly
relating to inserting a large number of cells. A number of non-linear
sections were removed, so the maximum size of a possible graph should
scale far better. GraphEd, one of the JGraph examples, was given a number
of new helper methods, as well as hooks to make it easier to use it as a
superclass. getPreferredSize() now uses the insets value correctly, and a
default inset was added to GraphConstants. A few variable names were

mail filter, antispam through SpamAssassinn, antivirus through ClamAV,
calendar with reminder/notification, webdisk, and HTTP compression. It has
the following system features: fast folder access, efficient message
movement, small memory footprint, graceful file locking, various
authentication modules, PAM support, remote SMTP relaying, virtual
hosting, user alias, pure virtual user support, per user capability
configuration, and persistent running through SpeedyCGI.
Changes: This release features greatly improved multiple charset support,
attachment deletion support in reading messages, file permission
modification support in Webdisk, displaying a message with its own
charset, multiple global address book support, and URL support in file
uploading. It also fixes a problem with unexpected process death because
of an aborted piped child, huge memory usage because of improperly
handling of a disconnected POP3 server, improperly parsing of DEFAULT_*
options, and problems with global address book corruption because of
running conversion for more than once.

Scientific/Engineering :: Mathematics
About: openModeller is a static spatial distribution modelling library. It
provides a uniform method for modelling distribution patterns using a
variety of algorithms. It can be used to predict species distribution
(fundamental niche) based on a set of georeferenced occurrence points and
a set of environmental layers.
Changes: A DesktopGarp version of GARP (as GARP 2.1) has been added. GARP
3.x has been removed from the build due to instability under high
dimensional datasets. The Best Subset Procedure was replaced with a new
generic version that can be extended to encapsulate any GARP version. A
bug in the Bioclim distance algorithm has been fixed (probabilities were
greater than zero outside the envelope depending on the cutoff parameter).
A bug in the sampler class has been fixed (when absence data was available,
it was splitting train samplers once again and test samplers were coming
out empty).

[072] - RRD Poller 1.5.0
by Olivier Poitrey (http://freshmeat.net/users/rs/)
Mon, Feb 28th 2005 10:01
Database :: API
System :: Monitoring
About: RRD poller allows you to poll RRD files and get the current value
of a given data source. Additionally, it implements some advanced checks
which can use past values to decide if the current one is out of threshold
or not. The main purpose of this tool is to form the interface between an
existing monitoring system like BigBrother, Nagios, or Mon and a set of
RRD graphs generated by some specialized data collectors like rrdcollect,
Cricket, and such. Thus, you can build a very modular monitoring/trend
architecture without the need of double polling.
Changes: This release adds --quiet and --lazy options, changes the syntax
of sub-commands' arguments (they can now be express as key=value instead
of --key value; the old syntax is still supported), adds the ability to
chain sub-commands with the special keywords "or" and "and", and updates
the documentation.

About: WANPIPE S-series is a family of intelligent multi-protocol WAN and
ADSL adapters that support data transfer rates up to 8Mbps. All WAN
protocols supported by WANPIPE are implemented in firmware and run on the
card. An advantage of an intelligent adapter is that it offloads the
system CPU and improves stability. By adding a Sangoma WAN/ADSL component
to the Linux kernel, one can create a powerful multi-T1/ADSL
router/firewall with proven reliability of Linux. Sangoma S-series cards
support an optional on board T1/E1 CSU/DSU that eliminates all external
components of a traditional routing solution: i.e. T1/E1 line can be
directly connected to the card. WANPIPE supports the following protocols,
ATM, ADSL, Frame Relay, PPP, MULTILINK PPP, CHDLC, X25(API), BitStreaming
(API), BiSync(API), and SDLC(API). Furthermore, WANPIPE supports custom
API development such as: Credit card verification, Voice-over IP,
Satellite Comm. All device drivers are part of the standard Linux Kernel
distribution.

mode, which supports one server to serve Swing clients and Web clients at
the same time. The framework uses XML to define an application's GUI. It
provides a common widget-based, object-oriented programming interface for
Web and Swing GUIs, which prevents the developer from struggling with HTML
and HTTP or with the internals of Swing. For Swing client/server
applications the client/server split as well as the client/server
communication is handled transparently by the framework. The project
includes a GUI builder that is based on the framework's functionality
(screenshot, deployed as a Web/HTML application).
Changes: This version includes a loader for ListModel, TreeModel, and
TableModel to connect Swing models to WidgetServer GUIs. A render
interface has been implemented to render Data from a model to a view. The
helloworld application has been enhanced and has better documentaion. A
new chapter in the tutorial describes how to implement the MVC pattern.
Some important bugfixes in Swing widgets have been done.

[093] - xplain2sql 2.2
by Berend de Boer (http://freshmeat.net/users/berenddb/)
Mon, Feb 28th 2005 17:18
Database :: Front-Ends
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: xplain2sql converts files from Xplain to SQL. It supports a very
large subset of Xplain, and it can convert from Xplain to Microsoft SQL
Server, DB/2, Inprise InterBase, PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, or ANSI-92
SQL. It can also generate an XML description of the generated SQL. This
XML description can be used to create low-level middle-tier code. A
Delphi/ADO XSLT style sheet is included. The C source code release should
compile on any platform with an ANSI C compiler. There are binary releases
for FreeBSD, BeOS, Linux, and Windows 2000.
Changes: Column number is now reported for warnings. Values can now be
updated (previously, this worked only for certain dialects). Support has
been added for the * and ? operators. If these two characters appear in a
literal string, the comparison is done with like. Bugfixes for output for
InterBase, PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL and Oracle.

System :: Archiving :: Compression
System :: Filesystems
Utilities
About: Zlibc allows applications to transparently access compressed files.
As soon as the application attempts to open a compressed file, zlibc
uncompresses the data on the fly. No kernel patch, no recompilation of the
executables nor the libraries is needed.
Changes: Updated for compatibility with Solaris 10 and current versions of
Glibc.
