[001] - /etc/net 0.6.2 (Scripts)
  by Pilot (http://freshmeat.net/users/infrastation/)
  Wed, Mar 2nd 2005 10:27

System :: Boot :: Init
System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration

About: /etc/net represents a new approach to Linux network configuration
tasks. Inspired by the limitations of traditional configuration
subsystems, /etc/net provides builtin support for configuration profiles,
interface name management, removable device support, full iproute2 command
set support, interface dependency resolution, and a QoS configuration
framework. /etc/net provides support for the following interface types:
Ethernet, WiFi (WEP), IPv6/IPv6 tunnels, PSK IPSec tunnels, VLAN, PLIP,
Ethernet bonding and bridging, traffic equalizer, Pent@NET, usbnet, and
PPP. Due to its modular design, support for new interface types can be
added without overall design changes.

Changes: A dhcp-static BOOTPROTO and dhcpcd workaround. A 'service network
check' enhancement. Duplicates have been removed from options files.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Office/Business :: Scheduling
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes

About: Active Calendar is a PHP class that generates calendars (month or
year view) as HTML tables (XHTML-Valid). It can produce static calendars
without any links or calendars with navigation controls, a date picker
control, event days and content with event URLs, and linkable days
(optionally URL or Javascript). The layout can be configured using CSS,
and JavaScript is not required. The supported dates (on systems using a
32-bit signed integer Unix time_t) are: 1902-2037 (Unix) and 1971-2037
(Windows), when using the default PHP native date functions, and 100-3000
and later, when using the ADOdb Date Library.

Changes: The class now supports different GMT zones and not only the
server local time for the current date calculation. The setEventContent()
method has also been modified to optionally create a different HTML class
name (layout) for each event content.

About: The ActiveBPEL engine is a robust runtime environment capable of
executing process definitions created according to the Business Process
Execution Language for Web Services (BPEL4WS, or just BPEL) 1.1
specifications.

Changes: This release includes a fix that makes process event logging
thread-safe. The admin JSP pages include some improvements and fixes. The
engine admin interface includes new get and setConfiguration methods. An
alarm queueing issue was fixed, as was a bug in process state saving and
one in the default configuration of process caching. Two old admin
methods, getVariableStr and getProcessStateStr were reinstated. As always,
see the release notes for details and more changes.

Database :: Front-Ends
Office/Business
Software Development

About: DataVision is a reporting tool similar to Crystal Reports, written
in Java. It supports multiple data sources (JDBC, text files) and output
formats (HTML, XML, PDF, LaTeX, comma- and tab-separated data files, and
DocBook). It lets you design reports with a drag-and-drop GUI. Report
descriptions are stored as XML.

Changes: A default format and border can now be set for the entire report.
Formulas are now run using the Bean Scripting Framework, and the report is
exposed to formulas as a global object. An upgrade was made to JRuby
0.8.0. A number of code refactorings that didn't change behavior were
made. Quotes were remvoed from around classpaths in datavision.bat. A
documentation error that showed incorrect arguments for the PDFLE
constructor was fixed.

[019] - DB Solo 0.8.9
  by DB Solo (http://freshmeat.net/users/mhantula/)
  Wed, Mar 2nd 2005 01:38

Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Systems Administration

About: DB Solo is a powerful database development and management tool for
developers and DBAs. It has an intuitive user interface that allows you
to explore and manage your database objects as well as execute ad-hoc
queries. It supports Oracle, MySQL, Sybase, and MS SQL Server. In addition
to viewing objects such as schemas, tables, indexes, views, tablespaces,
users, roles, sessions, and stored procedures, you can view, edit, print,
 and export data from tables or the results of queries. You can also
graphically view foreign  key relationships.

Changes: This release adds support for Auto-Completion in Query Window,
which can now automatically complete your SQL statements as you type them
in. For example, you can type in 'SELECT * FROM ' and the query window
will automatically pop up a window containing tables/views available in
the current context. You can now connect to MS SQL Server even when the
server is configured to only use Windows Authentication. A Favorites
Toolbar was added that contains all your favorite database objects right
under the main toolbar, providing access to your objects with a single
mouse-click.

Communications
Communications :: Chat
Communications :: Conferencing

About: Effusia Business Messenger is a cross-platform (Linux and Windows),
centrally managed, internal instant messaging and presence communication
tool for small to medium enterprises. The system comprises a client, a
server, and an administration tool. Effusia focuses on providing real-time
business communication combined with simple deployment, easy
administration, and a friendly end-user experience.

Changes: This version makes improvements focusing on larger deployments
and use in remote locations. Active Directory synchronization allows
Effusia users to use their existing Windows username and password. The
batch user feature makes managing a large number of users easier and
faster. Console improvements include secure file transfers using Triple
DES encryption and the ability to send file transfers through the server
when a direct connection can not be made. The Console also comes with a
new look and gives users more control over how their contacts are
displayed.

  Wed, Mar 2nd 2005 15:17

Information Management
Information Management :: Records Management

About: enetman is a network asset management Web application written in
PHP with a MySQL backend. Its intended use is to maintain a structured
list of servers that can be cross referenced by location, manufacturer,
vendor, CPU, and OS. It allows for a user to create and maintain
locations, manufacturers, and vendors along with contact names and phone
numbers to each. It contains a device log that tracks issues that servers
have had, a list of network ports on the server along with IP information
(IP, subnet, gateway, DNS, network card make/model and MAC) for each port
(this includes aliased ports), and a software manager that keeps tabs on
expiration dates of software. It enables the user to create a directory
tree with files that can then be attached to locations, vendors,
manufacturers, software, or servers. It maintains a list of all software
installed on a server and how many licenses are allocated to it. A Perl
script run from cron emails users when a license is about to expire.

Changes: This release adds a Perl script to check license expirations. A
"moving" menu bug has been fixed. The documentation has been updated. An
alert level has been added to software expiration.

  Wed, Mar 2nd 2005 09:22

About: FreeNX is an implementation of a NoMachine/NX-compatible terminal
server. It makes use of NoMachine's NX command line tools more convenient
and less error prone.

Changes: Important security fixes were made. Any version prior to 0.2.8
should not be used in production, and such versions are not supported any
more. In prior versions, the authority file was not used at all, which had
the same effect as if "xhost +localhost" was set, allowing any local or NX
user to access any other NX user's $DISPLAY. Two other potential security
problems (where umask was not set to a safe value) were removed.

About: FreeNX is an implementation of a NoMachine/NX-compatible terminal
server. It makes use of NoMachine's NX command line tools more convenient

Changes: Settings are now in config files. 'nxnode' supports "autostart"
functionality. You can forward connections to the commercial NoMachine NX
server for insta+operation of FreeNX and NoMachine NX on the same system
without conflict. A generic connection forwarding mechanism allows
"chaining" of nxservers. "floating window" support for "rootless" nxagent
in preparation for the upcoming 1.5.0 NX libraries. "floating window" also
for direct nxproxy:nxproxy connections. "nxsetup" now has "--uninstall".
Increased security by suppression of port- & X11-forwarding in ssh-key.

About: ksb26 (Kernel Socks Bouncer for 2.6.x) is a patch for the Linux
2.6.x kernel that redirects full TCP connections through a socks5 proxy.
ksb26 uses a character device to pass socks5 and the target IP addresses
to the Linux kernel. This is obviously quite useful if you want to

About: Mauve constructs global multiple alignments of rearranged genomes.
It also provides an interactive display of multi-species sequence
conservation and any annotated features in those genomes. It can be
applied to either finished or incomplete genomes in multiple contigs. The
resulting display is useful for identifying functional chromosomal regions
under selective pressure and for performing ortholog assignment based on
conserved gene order. Mauve writes global alignments in eXtended
Multi-FastA (XMFA) format, a phylogenetic guide tree in Newick format, and
the location of genomic islands. It identifies the breakpoints of genomic
rearrangement and can provide a reduction of the genomes to a signed
permutation matrix suitable for inference of rearrangement history.

Changes: Annotated feature display from GenBank format files was added.
Mac OS X is fully supported. Display of chromosomal boundaries and contig
boundaries in incomplete genome assemblies was added.

[049] - minpair 4.0
  by Bill Poser (http://freshmeat.net/users/billposer/)
  Wed, Mar 2nd 2005 20:46

Text Processing :: Linguistic

About: minpair generates a complete list of minimal pairs (words differing
in exactly one segment) for use in linguistic research from a list of words
in UTF-8 Unicode. By default, only searches for pairs of words of the same
length differing in exactly one segment. Command line options allow the
addition of single insertions or deletions and single transpositions. In
order to find all minimal pairs it is normally necessary for the input
notation to use one character for each segment. Even in IPA transcription,
this is often not the case. minpair provides for this situation by
accepting definitions of multigraphs.

Changes: The default input now consists of two columns per line rather
than one, separated by a tab. The second column is intended for an
identifier, typically a gloss or record number. The identifier is written
out together with the associated word, making it easier to identify the
form when working with an unfamiliar language.

[052] - Oddjob 0.13.1
  by Rob (http://freshmeat.net/users/robjg/)
  Wed, Mar 2nd 2005 01:47

About: Oddjob is an open source Java job scheduler and job toolkit. It
uses an XML configuration file to define a tree of jobs, allowing grouping
and execution of branches. It can run standalone on a desktop or server, or
embedded in client code. It provides a GUI monitor and the ability to
connect to a remote instance over RMI. It is easily extendable, allowing
programmers to develop their own jobs.

Changes: Variables are now re-evaluated correctly every time a job
executes. In the scheduler example the file date will now move on
correctly before the FTP download. Other bugs in the Schedule Job have
also been fixed so a job doesn't move on if manually re-run in its due
interval. The log panel now shows log messages.

[064] - Plan 9 From User Space March 2, 2005
  by Eric Van Hensbergen (http://freshmeat.net/users/ericvh/)
  Wed, Mar 2nd 2005 09:17

Software Development

About: Plan 9 From User Space is a port of the bulk of the Plan 9 software
build environment to Unix. While the libraries make an attempt to play nice
with the rest of the system (by using the Unix rules for printf verbs and
Unix system headers, for example), this port tries to reproduce the Plan 9
build environment as faithfully as possible, providing u.h and libc.h, and
blithely redefining tokens such as open, dup, and accept in order to
provide implementations that better mimic the Plan 9 semantics. The result
is a more complicated and less Unix-friendly environment, but Plan 9
programs can typically be compiled with little or no changes.

Changes: This version is more portable between architectures and operating
systems. More applications are now supported, including preliminary support
for Venti.

  Wed, Mar 2nd 2005 06:56

About: rlocate is an implementation of the "locate" command that is always
up-to-date. The database that the original locate uses is usually updated
only once a day, so newer files cannot be located right away. The behavior
of rlocate is the same as slocate, but it also maintains a diff database
that gets updated whenever a file is created or a directory is moved. The
rlocate kernel module can be compiled only with Linux 2.6 kernels.

Changes: Inserting of paths in the module after timeout is now disabled if

[084] - shipper 0.9
  by Eric S. Raymond (http://freshmeat.net/users/esr/)
  Wed, Mar 2nd 2005 10:22

System :: Software Distribution Tools

About: shipper is a utility to automate shipping of open-source project
releases. It automates the tedious process of shipping a software release
to several standard locations, including ibiblio, the Red Hat submission
directory, and the developer's Web site. It can also post a release
announcement to freshmeat.net, via freshmeat-submit. Finally, it is able
to build RPMs, and generate LSM files from them.

Changes: The Channels variable is gone. There are no longer default public
channels; you put the ones you want in your Destinations variable. For
safety's sake, the force (-f) option is also gone; generated deliverables
are now built unconditionally, and you must explicitly make sure no
index.html exists in order to get one generated. There is now a "berlios"
channel.

  Wed, Mar 2nd 2005 12:48

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: Swingweb is an implementation of the AWT toolkit that enables an
AWT/Swing application to operate inside a Web container and display as a
Web application to a Web browser, purely in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. No
code conversion is required for a Swing application to run in the SwingWeb
environment. SwingWeb allows a developer to use the Swing UI model for Web
application development, which should save development cost by merging the
development process of both a desktop application and a Web application.

Changes: This beta release includes a lot of improvement to the original
component (menu, splitpane, internal frame, etc.) with better styling.
Some new component support is added (slider, etc.). The next release will
