  by Andreas Aardal Hanssen (http://freshmeat.net/users/andreaha/)
  Sun, Mar 6th 2005 06:00

Communications :: Email :: Post-Office :: IMAP

About: Binc IMAP is a well designed, modular IMAP server for Maildir. Its
goals are to be secure, stable, and fast, yet flexible and easy to
maintain. It is designed to be familiar for qmail-pop3d users, uses
checkpassword to authenticate, and is very easy to set up.

Changes: This release includes several smaller bugfixes and compile fixes.
The most significant change is that the BODY response no longer includes
extensions which are forbidden by the RFC.

  Sun, Mar 6th 2005 12:09

System :: Hardware

About: cwfloppy is a Linux device driver for the Catweasel Advanced Floppy
Controller manufactured by Individual Computers. The Catweasel is a
versatile Shugart bus controller (i.e., it can control floppy drives). It
is extremely flexible and can be programmed to read and write just about
any floppy disk in the world. This driver supports reading and writing of
Amiga and MS-DOS DD/HD 3.5" disks.

Changes: Support has been added for the new Catweasel model MK4.

Text Processing

About: CL-EMB is a library which embeds Common Lisp and special template
tags into normal text files. It can be used for dynamically-generated HTML
pages.

Changes: A minor bugfix was made for a warning/error that was caused by a
variable that was defined but never used when called without the
optional(!) parameter.

[005] - Distributed Automatic Browser Screenshots 0.1.0

  Sun, Mar 6th 2005 12:35

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Browsers
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Screen Capture

About: Web pages look different in other browsers. For Web designers, this
is a major problem because testing a new site in many browsers is quite
time-consuming. The idea is to distribute the work of making browser
screenshots among community members. Everybody can add URLs to the job
queue on a central server. Workers use a small program to automatically
make screenshots of Web pages in their favorite browser and upload the
results to the server.

Database :: Front-Ends
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Object Brokering

About: Distributed Multiplatform Framework is a component-based
programming framework using XML (or currently a hardcoded variant) as the
repository. The samples are implemented either in console or wxWidgets.
This shows the independence of the GUI or UI.

Changes: New code was added to build nearly completely under Mac OS X.
Code changes were made for building correctly. The GUI sample now works
against MySQL and PostgreSQL database.

[008] - EJOE 0.3.2
  by netseeker (http://freshmeat.net/users/netseeker/)
  Sun, Mar 6th 2005 17:38

Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
Software Development :: Object Brokering

About: A lightweight Java client/server component built to send and
receive objects through pluggable (de)serialization mechanisms. It offers
a high-performance, simple, and clean object request broker (whereby ORB
is meant in its natural manner and not in its relation with CORBA), with
server and client components for your client/server applications. Similar
to RMI, it supports remote class loading to avoid redundant classpath
entries, but doesn't require stubs and/or proxy objects.

Changes: This release uses non-blocking I/O streams by default to allow
direct hand-over of streams to (de)serialize adapters. Different
adjustable threading mechanisms for RWP threadpools were added, as well as
support for selective compression. A critical bug concerning the used
default connection timeout value was fixed in the client component.

[009] - Exiv2 0.6.2
  by Andreas Huggel (http://freshmeat.net/users/ahuggel/)
  Sun, Mar 6th 2005 07:39

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Digital Camera
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers

About: Exiv2 is an EXIF and IPTC C++ library that makes reading and
writing Exif and Iptc metadata easy. It provides full Exif makernote and
thumbnail support. The Exiv2 command line utility prints Exif and Iptc
metadata including Makernote tags in various formats, adjusts Exif
timestamps, renames images according to the Exif timestamp, extracts and
inserts Exif and Iptc metadata and JPEG comments, or deletes the thumbnail
or a specific type of metadata from an image.

Changes: This release adds an option to run metadata modify commands
directly from the command line. Other enhancements were also made to the
Exiv2 utility. The build environment now uses GNU Libtool for correct
(shared) library generation on various platforms, and has an improved
installation routine. The Exiv2 library can now deal with Exif data with
non-standard IFDs (as created by programs such as GraphicConverter for
Mac).

  Sun, Mar 6th 2005 07:13

Communications :: Email
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)

About: ezail is an application for securely transferring files of any
size through the Internet. Files are sent directly from senders to
recipients without servers, with no limits on attachment sizes, no
mailbox quotas, and no bounced messages. Unlike email, the identity of
senders and recipients is authenticated by signed certificates. Files
sent are encrypted end-to-end with the Triple-DES algorithm.

Changes: This version adds fallback ports for the ezail protocol and
improves the handshake protocol between peers in terms of performance and
security.

[014] - FreeNX 0.3.0
  by Kurt Pfeifle (http://freshmeat.net/users/pipitas/)
  Sun, Mar 6th 2005 07:33

About: FreeNX is an implementation of a NoMachine/NX-compatible terminal
server. It makes use of NoMachine's NX command line tools more convenient
and less error prone.

Changes: User-specific configuration files now override the system-wide
configuration. FreeNX and NoMachine NX may now be installed on one system
without conflict. Connections to the commercial NoMachine NX server from
FreeNX can be forwarded. A generic connection forwarding mechanism was
added for "chaining" nxservers. Floating window mode was added for
"rootless" nxagent. A floating window may also be used for direct
nxproxy:nxproxy connections. Security was increased by prohibiting port
and X11 forwarding in ssh-key and by limiting the permissions to the
"nxserver" command.

System :: Software Distribution

About: Konvalo is a full-featured software environment for Linux, FreeBSD,
and NetBSD, placed on a global filesystem so that no installation is ever
necessary. It does not depend on local resources, and can be run on any
Linux distribution and without the intervention of the local

a compatible kernel, a Bourne shell, and the Coda file system. A Coda
client package is provided for convenience and it is the only dependency
that requires superuser cooperation.

About: MAPI, or Monitoring API, is a multi-user programming interface
designed to simplify the development of network monitoring software and
allow users to express their monitoring needs in a device-independent way.
The main abstraction provided is the network flow. Although flows have been
used before in network monitoring systems, MAPI gives flows a first-class
status. Applications that use MAPI can specify what flows or flow
statistics they are interested in by applying functions to flows. A MAPI
function can be a BPF filter, string search, or packet counter, or more
advanced like a NetFlow generator. These functions will automatically run
in hardware if there is support for it on the hardware being used.

[068] - VTE 0.11.12
  by sigra (http://freshmeat.net/users/sigra/)
  Sun, Mar 6th 2005 07:29

About: The VTE library inserts terminal capability strings into a tree of
tables, and then uses it to determine if data received from a
pseudo-terminal is a control sequence or just random data. The sample
program "interpret" illustrates more or less what the widget sees after it
filters incoming data.

Changes: A crash which occurred when resizing a terminal running minicom
was fixed. The timeouts were adjusted to make the program behave like
xterm when outputing large amounts of text while remaining fast. A build
problem with VTE_DEBUG enabled was fixed. Build fixes were made for
NetBSD, Darwin, and AIX. The keypad now behaves like in xterm. A black
background in new terminals was fixed. Scrolling issues were fixed. screen
corruption with multibyte charsets was fixed. The terminal is redrawn fully
before scrolling. A crash with IM-methods was fixed. A fix was made for
scrolling back then forward. The terminal now reports the correct type.

[069] - Weplab 0.1.4
  by topolb (http://freshmeat.net/users/topolb/)
  Sun, Mar 6th 2005 03:31

Security
Security :: Cryptography
System :: Networking

About: Weplab is a tool to review the security of WEP encryption in
wireless networks from an educational point of view. Several attacks are
available, so it can measure the effectiveness and minimum requirements of
each one. Currently, weplab supports several methods, and it is able to
crack the WEP key from 600,000 encrypted packets.

Changes: A bug in bruteforge.c was fixed, and a new way to coordinate
multiple process cracking was implemented. Another bug in bruteforge.c was
fixed to allow --ascii to go up to 0x7F. Support was added for --alpha
(only letters) and --alnum (letters and numbers) in the bruteforce attack.
wlan0 is now the default interface for capturing packets. Pressing "q" now
quits sniffing and flushes the pcap file. Help for command line parameters
was simplified. Some divide by 0 bugs were fixed. The --wordfile option was
added to make it possible to launch the dictionary based attack without
using John the Ripper to generate words.

About: The Xfce Foundation Classes is a set of integrated C++ classes for
developing Xfce and GTK+ applications on UNIX- like operating systems such
as Linux. The classes combine the power of GTK+ and the power of C++ into

Environment. The classes judiciously use C++ language features to avoid
layering on too much extra C++ complexity. The API is easy to understand
and use, and should feel immediately familiar to most GTK+ programmers.
