Office/Business :: Financial
Software Development :: Libraries
About: AqBanking is a modular and generic interface to online banking
tasks, financial file formats (import/export) and bank/country/currency
information. It provides frontends for Qt, KDE, GTK, and console.
AqBanking uses backend plugins to actually perform the online tasks. HBCI
and DTAUS discs are currently supported. AqBanking is used by GnuCash,
KMyMoney, and QBankManager.
Changes: This version fixes some security related bugs, improves the
collaboration of im-/exporter plugins to automatically determine the type
of a data file, and allows GnuCash to issue transfer orders under more
circumstances than in previous versions. Transaction retrieval now also
works with HBCI 2.2 in Pin/Tan mode. The AqHBCI-Debugger now creates
much better anonymized logs.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors
Scientific/Engineering
Text Processing :: Markup :: TeX/LaTeX
About: cb2Bib is a tool for rapidly extracting unformatted bibliographic
references from email alerts, journal Web pages, and PDF files. It
facilitates the capture of single references from unformatted sources.
References are written in BibTeX. A PDF file with the article text, if
available, can be easily linked and renamed by dragging it onto the
cb2Bib window. Reference manager applications can later retrieve,
import, and display these BibTeX references.
Changes: This release includes a convenience text editor suitable for
corrections and additions. cb2Bib capabilities, e.g., interconversions
Unicode-LaTeX, long-abbreviated journal name, and adding/renaming PDF, are
easily available within the editor. The GUI has been improved and slightly
redesigned. Customizable input preprocessing has been added. This permits
you to remove or modify unwanted strings, such as img-alt tags that may
interfere with the author string processing.

Fri, Apr 8th 2005 15:37
Games/Entertainment :: Real Time Strategy
About: DarkWorld is a space-based massively multiplayer real-time strategy
game. Each player starts off with their own home planet. From there they
can build ships, start exploring the universe, colonize other planets, and
attack other players. What makes this game unique is that the game is
always running at a very slow speed even when you are not connected. When
you send a ship to another planet, it may not arrive for hours or days,
and likewise the message it sends back may not arrive for hours or days.
This allows many players to engage in a real-time strategy game that could
last for months. New players can join the game at any time.

[012] - DataVision 0.9.3
by jimm (http://freshmeat.net/users/jimm/)
Fri, Apr 8th 2005 00:29
Database :: Front-Ends
Office/Business
Software Development
About: DataVision is a reporting tool similar to Crystal Reports, written
in Java. It supports multiple data sources (JDBC, text files) and output
formats (HTML, XML, PDF, LaTeX, comma- and tab-separated data files, and
DocBook). It lets you design reports with a drag-and-drop GUI. Report
descriptions are stored as XML.
Changes: This version fixes a problem where after changing a field's
format, it would disappear from report output after the report was saved
and reloaded. It also fixes a serious subreport bug where when subreports
were saved as part of a report and re-loaded, they would not run properly.
Another subreport bug was fixed so that if a subreport has multiple
joins, "and" is put between them when generating SQL. Reports with
subreports will run faster, because subreport query results are now
cached. The MySQL test data generator now properly generates upper-case
names and names with spaces.

About: dstat is a versatile replacement for vmstat, iostat, and ifstat. It
overcomes some of the limitations of these tools and adds some extra
features. It allows you to view all of your system resources instantly;
you can, for example, compare disk usage in combination with interrupts
from your IDE controller, or compare the network bandwidth numbers
directly with the disk throughput (in the same interval).
Changes: This version includes a small fix to clean up terminal settings
for all exit paths. It removes a duplicate 'screen width too small' error
message in dstat15.

applications and applets, using the available crypto providers rather than
implementing its own. It is extremely lightweight, and functionality that
is not required can be safely left out.
Changes: This is a feature-freeze release before 1.0. Several new features
have been added and some bugs have been fixed. A workaround for buggy
public key servers (such as pgp.mit.edu) has been implemented. Novelties:

Database
Software Development
Software Development :: Code Generators
About: FireStorm imports database schema definitions from SQL scripts or
from live databases via JDBC, and then generates a complete data-access
tier based on the Data Access Object (DAO) design pattern. The generated
source code is well-written, consistent, and contains documentation.
FireStorm can generate source code based on JDBC/SQL and can also generate
EJB Entity Beans for leading J2EE application servers, such as BEA WebLogic
and IBM WebSphere. FireStorm/DAO is a powerful yet simple alternative to
traditional object-relational mapping products. Rather than attempting to
map any Java code to any database schema using complex rules, FireStorm
generates Java source code that is a one-to-one representation of a
relational database schema.
Changes: This release now includes full support for generating Java
persistence code for calling Stored Procedures (Oracle, SQL Server,
Sybase). Other enhancements include an improved user interface, and new
wizards for generating code.

by alphaWorks (http://freshmeat.net/users/alphaworks/)
Fri, Apr 8th 2005 17:24
About: The Framework for Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) was implemented
to demonstrate the ease with which a Java application may be designed to
access a source code repository using a relational query language, such
as SQL. The design was made general enough to accommodate easy access to

by M. Grimm (http://freshmeat.net/users/matthiasgrimm/)
Fri, Apr 8th 2005 11:27
About: GTKPBButtons is a visualisation client for PBButtonsd, the hardware

running instance, so that no more than one GtkPBButtons process is in
memory at the same time.

[062] - Openwall Linux kernel patch 2.4.30-ow1 (Linux 2.4)
by Solar Designer (http://freshmeat.net/users/solardiz/)

Security
System :: Operating System Kernels :: Linux
System :: Systems Administration
About: The Openwall Linux kernel patch is a collection of security
"hardening" features for the Linux kernel. In addition to the new
features, some versions of the patch contain various security fixes. The
"hardening" features of the patch, while not a complete method of
protection, provide an extra layer of security against the easier ways to
exploit certain classes of vulnerabilities and/or reduce the impact of
those vulnerabilities. The patch can also add a little bit more privacy to
the system by restricting access to parts of /proc so that users may not
see what others are doing.

[067] - Prefix WhoIs 1.0.1
by oppleman (http://freshmeat.net/users/oppleman/)
Fri, Apr 8th 2005 23:27
About: The Prefix WhoIs Project provides a whois-compatible client and
server framework for disclosing various up-to-date routing information via
a familiar whois interface. Instead of using registrar-originated
information (which is often unspecific or inaccurate), it uses the
Internet's global routing table as gleaned from a number of routing peers
around the network. The software consists of a 'pWhoIsd' server that
responds to queries using a variety of output formats including
pWhoIs-native, Cymru, and RPSL, the 'pWhoIs-updatedb' agent that parses
routing information bases (RIBs) from Internet routers and populates a
relational database, and the 'WhoB' command-line whois client.

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Wi.Ser is a Java/XML server-side GUI-framework which enables an
application to run as either a monolithic Swing app, a client/server Swing
app, or as a Web app without any change. It includes a mixed deployment
mode, which supports one server to serve Swing clients and Web clients at
the same time. The framework uses XML to define an application's GUI. It
provides a common widget-based, object-oriented programming interface for
Web and Swing GUIs, which prevents the developer from struggling with HTML
and HTTP or with the internals of Swing. For Swing client/server
applications the client/server split as well as the client/server
communication is handled transparently by the framework. The project
includes a GUI builder that is based on the framework's functionality
(screenshot, deployed as a Web/HTML application).
Changes: This is a small service release that fixes a bug in the color
handling of Swing widgets, a bug in the Mozilla template kit for
listBoxes, and a bug in the configuration of the preconfigured Jetty that
prevented large forms from being processed correctly.

About: X-Plane is a flight simulator that reads in the geometric shape of
any aircraft and then figures out how that aircraft will fly. It does this
via an engineering process called "blade element theory", which involves
breaking the aircraft down into many small elements and then finding the
forces on each little element many times per second. These forces are then
converted into accelerations, which are then integrated to velocities and
positions. This gives X-Plane the most realistic flight model available
for personal computers.

to choose a starting volume when fading.
Changes: The return value of nanosleep is now checked and acted on if
necessary. This should fix some problems with the volume fading.
