[001] - AAF SDK 1.1.0
by Stuart Cunningham (http://freshmeat.net/users/stuart_hc/)
Fri, Apr 15th 2005 10:45
Multimedia
About: AAF SDK is a cross-platform SDK that supports the Advanced
Authoring Format (AAF). AAF is a metadata management system and file
format for use in professional multimedia creation and authoring. The AAF
specification is administered by the AAF Association, which also
coordinates development of the SDK.
Changes: Major new APIs to support 1.1 of the AAF specification. Several
APIs have been extended, and there are many bugfixes to existing APIs and
plugin codecs. The codecs DV (within the CDCI codec) and PCM, including
the BWF container, have been added. The 2GB filesize limit found on some
platforms has been fixed. New utilities: aafextract, aaf2xtl, aafdump.
Support for the x86_64 target and UTF-8 filenames has been added. libgsf
has been added to available Structured Storage implementations. The plugin
loading search path has been fixed to be consistent across all platforms.

Fri, Apr 15th 2005 16:12
Internet
Internet :: Proxy Servers
System :: Clustering/Distributed Networks
About: BalanceNG is a professional software load balancing solution for
Linux. It is small, fast, and easy to use and setup. It offers session
persistence, different distribution methods (Round Robin, Random, Hash,
and Least Resource) and a customizable UDP health check agent in source
code. It supports VRRP (Virtual Router Redundancy Protocol) to set up
high availability configurations on multiple nodes. It integrates pcap
packet dumping for debugging purposes and allows the implementation of a
"transparent forensic logging bridge". It supports "all service load
balancing" based on client IP address which enables most protocols to be
supported (e.g. active FTP, RTSP/RTP/RTCP streaming protocols).
Changes: bngagent now contains testing functionality, and portability has
been improved. binaries of bngagent for Solaris 9(SPARC),
Solaris10(Intel), and Mac OS X are supplied. New target commands "aoffset"
and "ascale": load distribution can be highly optimized by applying a
linear function to the bngagent return code.

[005] - beancounter 0.8.1
by Dirk Eddelbuettel (http://freshmeat.net/users/eddelbuettel/)
Fri, Apr 15th 2005 01:12
Office/Business :: Financial
Office/Business :: Financial :: Investment
About: beancounter enables stockmarket data analysis and performance
evaluation. It has two main modes. The first is data gathering - both
current data (e.g. closing prices, high, low, volume etc.) and historical
price data can be retrieved efficiently using multiple securities per
requests, and stored in an SQL database (PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQLite are
supported) via easy command line operations. The second mode is data
analysis, based on the previously stored data. This comprises various
performance reports, as well as a Value-at-Risk analysis. beancounter is
implemented as a Perl module, and a Perl command-line frontend to the
module. It supports different stock markets from around the globe, foreign
exchange rates, US mutual funds, and US options.
Changes: SQLite support was enhanced: SQLite 3 is now the default, but
SQLite 2 database can still be used (or even be created) as two new
options have been added to beancounter and setup_beancounter.

by John Knottenbelt (http://freshmeat.net/users/jak/)
Fri, Apr 15th 2005 03:38
Multimedia :: Video :: Capture
Office/Business :: Scheduling
Utilities
About: The idea behind dvbd is to make maximum use of your DVB card by
allowing multiple channels on the same frequency to be tuned. It is split
into a daemon (dvbd) and client programs (dvbcat, dvbsched, and dvblist).
It is possible to associate a priority with a connection to the daemon, so
that (depending on the given priority) the tuner can be made available by
dropping connections of inferior priority. DVB-T, DVB-S, and DVB-C are
supported. Conditional Access Modules (CAMs) are not yet supported.
Changes: This release updates the tuning code to latest version from
dvbstream. The tuning code now respects the inversion setting in tzap
channel configuration. This means that if you are using INVERSION_AUTO,
channel tuning will take longer (if it worked before, you can get faster
tuning by changing your channels.conf to read INVERSION_OFF instead).
dvbd now hangs on to the frontend device for 5 seconds after the last
connection to it. This is to allow quick tuning to the last tuned
multiplex should another client connect. This release should now work
with DiBcom 3000-MB DVB-T.

Security
System :: Filesystems
System :: Systems Administration
About: The main goal of the Linux Trustees project is to create an
advanced permission management system for Linux. The solution proposed is
mainly inspired by the approach taken by Novell Netware and the Java
security API. Special objects (called trustees) can be bound to every file
or directory. The trustee object can be used to ensure that access to a
file, directory, or directory with subdirectories is granted (or denied)
to a certain user or group (or all except user or group). Trustees are
like POSIX ACLs, but trustee objects can affect entire subdirectory trees,
while ACLs a single file. Trustees works with the 2.6 Linux kernel.
Changes: This version fixes a problem where permissions were sometimes
not being applied correctly to the root partition (especially with
respect to files that did not exist already).

[065] - trend Rev #40 15/04/2005
by wave++ (http://freshmeat.net/users/wavexx/)
Fri, Apr 15th 2005 10:34
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
System :: Monitoring
Utilities
About: trend is a general-purpose, efficient trend graph for "live" data.
Data is read in ASCII format from a file or continuously from a FIFO, and
is played in real-time into a multipass trend (much like a CRT
oscilloscope). trend can be used as a rapid analysis tool for progressive
or time-based data series together with trivial scripting.
Changes: x-axis grid lines are now correctly aligned in scrolling mode.
Binary input support was implemented. hist-spec now uses "x" instead of
"*" to avoid globbing.

[067] - Visitors 0.9.7
by Steve McInerney (http://freshmeat.net/users/spm999/)
Fri, Apr 15th 2005 01:43
Internet :: Log Analysis
About: Visitors processes a Web log file, trying very hard to identify a
single "person" as much as possible. This is typically achieved by the
use of either an identifying cookie in the log file, or via the IP
address, name, and browser ID combination.
Changes: There are various minor changes and bugfixes in this release.
The cookie cleanup is now working. Additionally, long log file lines were
only being read from stdin. Some code cleanups, function documentation and
better autoconf configuration has also been included. The default results
ouput has had a very minor change.

Database :: Front-Ends
Internet
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content
About: Whitebeam is a frontend XML-centered rapid design environment which
makes use of HTML/XML and JavaScript. It integrates two popular and robust
Open Source platforms (Apache and Mozilla's SpiderMonkey JavaScript
engine), with its own powerful XML environment and security architecture.
Providing an extensible XML-based interface to backend objects on any
platform, the client model securely segregates thousands of customer
applications within a single server.
Changes: This release significantly simplifies the build process, adding
support for Apache 2.x, PostgreSQL version 8, and PostgreSQL replication,
as well as many other performance and behavioral improvements. The project
Web site has been updated to include more complete build instructions and
documentation on how to implement PostgreSQL replication.

Multimedia :: Graphics :: 3D Rendering
About: white_dune is a graphical VRML97 editor, simple NURBS/Superformula
3D modeller and animation tool. VRML97 (Virtual Reality Modeling Language)
is the ISO standard for displaying 3D data over the Web via browser plugins
("HTML for realtime 3D"). It has support for animation, real-time
interaction, and multimedia (images, movies, and sounds). white_dune can
read, create and display VRML97 files and let the user change the
scenegraph/fields. It also has support for stereoscopic view via
"quadbuffer"-capable stereo visuals, and support for 3D input devices like
a joystick, spaceball, or magnetic tracker.
Changes: This release adds patches to Extrusion code from the orbisnap
VRML browser project. A self-test for similarity of NodeEnum and _proto
map has been added. A DEF can no longer be set for a comment. Incorrect
accounting of mesh normals containing erroneous polygons with less than 3
vertices has been fixed.

[071] - XORP 1.1
by XORP (http://freshmeat.net/users/xorp/)
Fri, Apr 15th 2005 16:14
Internet
System :: Networking
About: XORP is the eXtensible Open Router Platform, an open- source router
software stack. The goal is to develop a software router platform that is
stable and fully featured enough for production use, and flexible and
extensible enough to enable network research. It implements routing
protocols for IPv4 and IPv6 and a unified means to configure them.
Changes: The Click support that was broken in release 1.0 is again
working. Some improvements have been made to the IPv6 support in BGP. The
documents "XORP User Manual" and "An Introduction to Writing a XORP
Process" have been added. An XORP Live CD is also available. This is a
bootable CD that allows users to experiment with XORP without having to
build or install it.
