[001] - abcm2ps 4.9.5 (Development)
by Guido Gonzato (http://freshmeat.net/users/goccia/)
Thu, Apr 14th 2005 00:53
Printing
About: abcm2ps is a package that converts music tunes from ABC format to
PostScript. Based on abc2ps version 1.2.5, it was developed mainly to
print baroque organ scores that have independant voices played on one or
more keyboards, and a pedal-board. It introduces many extensions to the
ABC language that make it suitable for classical music.
Changes: In addition to several bugfixes, this version accepts '0' after a
chord for stemless notes, prints two heads when voices are in unison with
stemless notes, and accepts guitar chords and annotations in 's:' ('d:')
lines.

by wedesoft (http://freshmeat.net/users/wedesoft/)
Thu, Apr 14th 2005 06:24
Database :: Front-Ends
About: anymeal is a cookbook database front-end. It can handle more than
100,000 recipes, and can search recipes for a given set of ingredients. It
is designed to be lean and flexible.
Changes: A bug in the line-counter for displaying line-number information
for syntax errors in Mealmaster-import has been fixed. The database format
has been changed again. Please note that there still is no updating
functionality for old databases. The work on selections of recipes and the
corresponding functionality has been started. The sources have been tidied
up to allow building AnyMeal with gcc-3.4.

System :: Logging
System :: Monitoring
About: arpalert uses ARP address monitoring to help prevent unauthorized
connections on the local network. If an illegal connection is detected, a
program or script is launched, which could be used to send an alert
message, for example.
Changes: Many bugs have been fixed. This release uses a white list/black
list. It learns the network and stores the result in the leases file.
There are more configuration options, and more options on the commandline.
This release has been translated to English (only the log messages).

[007] - C++ Regex Engine 0.05b
by unr_stuart (http://freshmeat.net/users/unr_stuart/)
Thu, Apr 14th 2005 00:24
Text Processing
About: C++ Regex Engine provides a robust regular expression library for
use in C++. The syntax of the regular expression language is very close to
the Perl 5 standard. The classes given somewhat mirror those found in
Java's regular expression library, but have several improvements. The
intended audience of this package is anyone who does a lot of data parsing
(e.g. sysadmins), people tired of trying to decipher Perl scripts, and
regular expression beginners who know C++. Some knowledge of the STL's
vector and string will come in handy, but isn't necessary.
Changes: Possibly very buggy Unicode support was added. Preliminary tests
show that both Unicode and ASCII matching works, though the Unicode
aspects have not yet been tested thoroughly.

Education :: Testing
Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: Clover makes the gathering and analysis of code coverage metrics as
painless as possible. It features include tight integration with the
Jakarta Ant build tool and accurate, configurable coverage recording. It
gathers Method, Statement, and Branch coverage data. Compile-time
properties and source level directives allow for precise control over the
coverage gathering process. Coverage data can be viewed in XML, HTML, or
via a Swing GUI. Report-time options allow for the exclusion of particular
statement types from coverage analysis. Plugins for the Eclipse, NetBeans,
JDeveloper, JBuilder, and IntelliJ IDEs are provided.
Changes: Bugfixes and minor improvements were made. The output of the
ConsoleReporter and clover-log Ant task were changed slightly, which may
cause minor problems if the output is being parsed.

by Marcin Kurzawa (http://freshmeat.net/users/marcink/)
Thu, Apr 14th 2005 00:21
Communications
Communications :: Chat
Communications :: Conferencing
About: CryptoHeaven offers secure email and online file sharing/storage.
Its main features are secure and highly encrypted services such as group
collaboration, file sharing, email, online storage, and instant messaging.
It integrates multi-user based security into email, instant messaging, and
file storage and sharing in one unique package. It provides real time
communication for text and data transfers in a multi-user secure
environment. The security and usability of CryptoHeaven is well-balanced;
even the no-so-technically oriented computer users can enjoy this crypto
product with very high level of encryption.
Changes: An online status display was added. Users can now show their
current online status as Available, Away, Not Available, and Do Not
Disturb. An addressee auto-completion feature was added. Any partial
address, name, or contact name entered in the "To", "Cc", or "Bcc" field
will now show a list of possible matches in a drop down box. The best
match can be selected with the Enter key and the list can be scrolled with
the arrow keys. The "select recipients" dialog was redesigned to include
the auto-completion feature. Text highlighting was implemented in the user
search dialog box.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Mail Transport Agents
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office
About: Mailadmin is a little administration interface to the popular Cyrus
mail server daemon. It supports every feature Cyrus provides, and fits in
most MTA configurations. A key feature is the non-standard, generic
administration hierarchy which not only seperates "normal users" from
"administrators", but enables the mailserver-master to create instances
between them. You will be able to let other users create their own
sub-users and thus either share a single mail server between different
organizations or project your company's employee structure.
Changes: The code has been cleaned up, and a few bugs were fixed. A
critical bug with authentication was fixed. Support for multiple servers
was added. Cyrus virtual domain support was implemented. A prefix to MySQL
tables can now be defined. Automatic detection of IMAP hierarchy separators
was implemented. Newsletters can be hidden. Catchalls can be created. The
supplied sample daemon supports caching of passwords (handy if your MySQL
server crashes).

About: DACS, the Distributed Access Control System, is a flexible
role-based access control system, comprising a set of authentication
methods, an Apache 2 module and suite of CGI programs, and a single
sign-on system, oriented towards controlling access to Web service
requests. It also includes a C/C++ toolkit for building new authentication
and access control functionality into programs. It can help manage access
to Web resources in many situations, whether on just one Web server,
several Web servers at one site, or many Web servers spread across the
Internet.
Changes: This release has support for LDAP and Microsoft ADS-based
authentication, improved man pages, and minor bugfixes. It has new and
renamed DACS expression functions, including LDAP name parsing. If -v and
--version are given, it will also print module version stamps. An initial
version of WWW-Authenticate/Authorization header handling has been added
(ACS can respond with or accept RFC 2617 headers). An "ndbm" storage
method has been added (includes gdbm in compatibility mode). Missing C/C++
bit operators for DACS expressions have been added.

Scientific/Engineering :: Bioinformatics
Scientific/Engineering :: Visualization
About: FinchTV is a way to easily view and edit your DNA sequencer
chromatogram data. It can display an entire trace in a scalable multi-pane
view, and will also display quality values (when available). You can edit
your base calls and save your data to a new chromatogram file for later
use, select and copy sequence for use in other applications, and print
your trace out to paper or a file. You also have the ability to search
your sequence data using regular expressions or simple base queries, to
view raw data from .ab1 files, and to reverse complement your sequence and
traces.
Changes: The delete feature has been modified so now you can delete a
range of bases, and so remove low quality regions. Quality values from
ABI files created on 3100 or 3700 machines are now correctly displayed.
ABI files containing a Mac header were previously corrupted on write if
you had increased the number of bases during editing. Bugs causing
malfunction of the reverse complement feature have been fixed.

by Paolo Lucente (http://freshmeat.net/users/plucente/)
Thu, Apr 14th 2005 14:14
Internet :: Log Analysis
System :: Networking :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration
About: pmacct is a small set of IPv4/IPv6 accounting and aggregation
tools. Aggregation of IP traffic revolves around the concept of
primitives (VLAN id, source and destination MAC addresses, IP addresses,
networks, AS numbers, ports, ToS field, and IP protocol are supported)
that may be employed alone or arbitrarily combined with others to form
complex aggregation methods. It supports custom historical breakdown,
packet sampling, filtering and tagging, recovery actions, and triggers.
Both libpcap (and promiscuous mode if required) and NetFlow v1/v5/v9 are
supported.
Changes: This release adds support for NetFlow v7/v8. Now incoming flows
can be tagged basing on the NetFlow v8 aggregation type field. A serious
memory leak located in the routines for handling NetFlow v9 templates has
been fixed. Some gcc4 compliance issues have been solved. The source code
works on AMD-64 architectures. Engine Type/Engine ID fields were not
correctly evaluated when using NetFlow v5 and Pre-Tagging; the issue has
been fixed.

About: Usermin is a Web interface that can be used by any user on a UNIX
system to easily perform tasks like reading mail, setting up SSH, or
configuring mail forwarding. It can be thought of as a simplified version
of Webmin designed for use by normal users rather than system
administrators.
Changes: A nasty bug that could cause configuration file permissions and
ownership to be changed when the file is modified was fixed. Users can now
be prevented from accessing certain directories by a new option on the
module configuration page.

System :: Systems Administration
About: Webmin is a web-based interface for system administration for Unix.
Using any browser that supports tables and forms, you can setup user
accounts, internet services, DNS, file sharing and so on.
Changes: A nasty bug that could cause configuration file permissions and
ownership to be changed when the file is modified was fixed. The Bandwidth
Monitoring module was updated to support Shorewall, IPFW, and IPfilter
firewalls. The various Cluster modules can now use groups to select which
hosts to refresh or synchronize on. Support was added for full PAM
conversations where more than a username and password is needed for
logins.

[067] - XINS 1.2.0-alpha3 (Development)
by Ernst de Haan (http://freshmeat.net/users/znerd/)
Thu, Apr 14th 2005 03:36
Communications
Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Software Development :: Build Tools
About: XINS is a technology used to define, create, and invoke remote
APIs. XINS is specification-oriented. When API specifications are written
(in XML), XINS will transform them to HTML-based documentation and Java
code for both the client-side and the server-side. The communication is
based on HTTP. XINS competes with the complex SOAP technology. Main design
goals include simplicity, scalability, and testability. XINS is not only a
specification technology, but also an application development framework.
It offers transaction logging, unique log documentation, and active code
generation.
Changes: Various problems were fixed and minor features were added.
Support for Jikes was added, compatibility issues with Java 1.4.0 and 1.5
were fixed, and PHP and Perl client-side examples were included.

[068] - Z1 SecureMail Gateway 2.1.5
by Zertificon (http://freshmeat.net/users/bonelabs/)
Thu, Apr 14th 2005 06:33
Communications :: Email
Security
Security :: Cryptography
About: Z1 SecureMail Gateway is a central, server-based software solution
which provides encryption and digital signatures for the entire email
traffic of an organization. It works with organizational certificates and
certificates for individual users, groups or organizational units. It
provides its services transparently to end users. Z1 SecureMail Gateway
automatically finds the certificates of external users or companies via
the Internet. Secure email traffic to customers, suppliers, and partners
is easily established, no matter whether or not they also deploy Z1
SecureMail Gateway. Evaluation packages for Red Hat and SuSE as well as
SUN Solaris are available for download.
Changes: A Signing-Policy for receiving users and receiving domains was
added. It now attaches X509 CA certificates to each SMIME signature if a
specific CA file exists for a user key. An email client side compatibility
issue with Outlook clients was fixed (some html+plain mail signatures were
shown as invalid although they are valid on other mail clients). The
enveloped FROM is now transparent. The Content-Type text/enriched is now
supported for security footer generation. Some new LDAP servers and some
CA certificates to BOT were added.

Software Development
Software Development :: Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: The Zeus Java Swing Components Library provides useful Swing
components for easier GUI development. It uses only standard components to
create widgets, and uses standard patterns wherever possible. The widgets
include JConsole, a console replacement; JSplash, a splash screen
implementation; TableSorter, which provides sorting for JTable using the
table's headers; OutLookToolBar, which provides the mouse over looks of
Microsoft Outlook toolbar buttons on a simple JToolBar; WindowManager,
which provides almost any functionality you need to manage all
JInternalFrames within a JDesktop; and much more.
Changes: The position for 'autopositioned' frames is now reset to 0,0
within the desktop if it is the first frame placed in the desktop. In
JConsole, the configuration process for the console was redesigned with
simple getXXX() and setXXX() methods. The autosave and dump of messages to
log files was also redesigned. A StringBuffer was created for storing all
messages ever printed, and a property file for GUI strings was added. A
modified swingworker was included along with the swingworker v3 class
provided by Sun's tutorial.
