[001] - Abstract User Interface Markup Language Toolkit 5.1
by alphaWorks (http://freshmeat.net/users/alphaworks/)
Fri, Apr 22nd 2005 02:24
About: The Abstract User Interface Markup Language Toolkit is a
rapid-development tool that assists developers in writing GUIs to run as
either Swing applications or on the Web without any changes. It provides
rapid prototyping with an Eclipse-based Visual Builder, a DataBean
implementation, built-in data validation, built-in internationalization,
and more.
Changes: This version now supports Eclipse 3.0.1 and includes significant
updates in Web-rendered tables and other widgets. The release also
includes many layout and functional fixes.

[003] - ACL2 2.9.2
by Jared Davis (http://freshmeat.net/users/aiken11/)
Fri, Apr 22nd 2005 23:41
Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Scientific/Engineering :: Electronic Design Automation (EDA)
About: ACL2 is a mathematical logic, programming language, and mechanical
theorem prover based on the applicative subset of Common Lisp. It is an
"industrial-strength" version of the NQTHM or Boyer/Moore theorem prover,
and has been used for the formal verification of commercial
microprocessors, the Java Virtual Machine, interesting algorithms, and so
forth.
Changes: This release added a simple system for saving ACL2 images with
"preloaded" theories and support for profiling your ACL2 functions using
GCL (with gprof). Minor cleanups were made in the ground zero theory,
several lemmas were added to the RTL books, and the system call mechanism
for portable output redirection was improved. Untranslate preprocessing
was added along with a new book that provides pattern-based untranslation.
Various (non-soundness) bugfixes related to guards, linear arithmetic, the
proof checker, and the ground zero theory were made.

Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
About: Ghostscript is a processor for PostScript and PDF files. It can
rasterize these files to a wide variety of printers, devices for screen
preview, and image file formats. Since applications tend to prepare pages
for printing in a high-level format such as PostScript, most Unix users
with low-level bitmap printers, such as inkjets, use GhostScript as part
of the printing process. In addition, Ghostscript is capable of converting
PostScript files, functionality comparable to Adobe Acrobat Distiller, but
on the command line. In addition, Ghostscript is used for file import and
viewing by a great many other applications, including xv, ImageMagick,
gimp, and xdvi. Several GUI wrappers for viewing PostScript and PDF files
exist, including GSview, ghostview, gv, ggv, and kghostview. This is far
from a comprehensive list.
Changes: This is a maintenance release which contains numerous bugfixes
and improvements, particularly in the area of PDF 1.6 handling.

About: Ampache is a Web-based MP3/Ogg/RM/Flac/WMA/M4A manager. It allows
you to view, edit, and play your audio files via HTTP/IceCast/Mpd or
Moosic. It has support for downsampling, playlists, artist, and album
views, album art, random play, song play tracking, and remote catalogs
using XML-RPC.
Changes: All PHP files have been moved out of /docs into the root so it is
now possible to simply extract ampache into your Web root directory. This
release also adds basic theme support and corrects a problem that occurred
when streaming with WMP.

[006] - Anatomic P2P 0.2 BETA (Tracker)
by kunkie (http://freshmeat.net/users/kunkie/)
Fri, Apr 22nd 2005 13:42
Communications :: File Sharing
About: Anatomic P2P is an implementation of a protocol designed to
decentralize BitTorrent. It is based on a network of "supertrackers" or
"supernodes" that users query and which route users to the correct
tracker(s). A modified tracker and client are used, and "old" clients can
still use the network. The technology is based on the Gnutella GWebCache
system.
Changes: A torrent now dies if it has no seeds/peers and has had no
modifications for the last day (86400 seconds). Scrape.php does not modify
expiring torrents. Announce.php does not peer share with dying torrents.

Office/Business
Office/Business :: Financial
About: Anduril attempts to provide a comprehensive infrastructure
solution for consulting firms, especially ones who need to track tasks,
time, scheduling, customer contacts, and billing information.
Changes: The build process has been reworked to rely on XDoclet for the
creation and building of EJBs, data transfer objects, servlets, and custom
tag libraries. Dependencies on the Velocity template engine have been
removed. Instead, the Web component uses a simple MVC framework based upon
J2EE design patterns. The ability for JBoss to manage security instead of
custom security modules has been added.

[008] - Annotatio 1.1b2
by Languenet Developer Team (http://freshmeat.net/users/languenet/)
Fri, Apr 22nd 2005 02:24
Information Management :: Metadata/Semantic Models
About: Annotatio is an implementation of a client and a server based on
the W3C Annotea protocol. It allows you to create and share annotations to
various types of documents. Most people can use this program to save
comments to HTML documents, but it also supports other types of
annotations and XML-like documents. In opposition to the current
implementation of the W3C, Annotatio will save enhanced information of the
annotation's positioning within the document, which will allow positing the
annotation even if the location or structure of the original document has
changed. In local mode, it will save all annotations locally, and in
remote mode, it will save the annotations on a central Annotea-compatible
server, such as Annotatio Server.
Changes: Parsing of XHTML documents was significantly improved, and a few
other bugs were fixed.

Fri, Apr 22nd 2005 21:31
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: Cgiapp.class.php is a port of CGI::Application to PHP. It utilizes
Smarty as its default templating engine, much as CGI::Application uses
HTML::Template, due to its prevalence and acceptance in the PHP community.
Due to PHP's built-in session support, it also adds two methods, s_param()
and s_delete(), to handle session parameters. A number of static methods
have also been included to facilitate error handling and array/hash
conversion.
Changes: phpt unit tests were added. All methods are now fully unit
tested. carp/croak now use PHP's trigger_error() for error handling. For
security reasons, dump() and dump_html() no longer return a serialized
version of the object. query() now properly returns a reference to a class
property. s_delete() now works for removing session variables. Finally,
Cgiapp may now be installed as a PEAR package.

About: Generator is a command line application to facilitate the
construction of small applications that need some database objects. It
isn't a replacement for complex object persistence solutions, like
hibernate or TopLink, but it covers a different target: the little Java
Web applications that don't use sophisticated persistence options.
Generator invocation is simple: just type java -jar generator.jar -xml,
where the config file is an XML config file with the definitions to

Text Processing :: Markup
About: libvarexp is a C++ library that allows its users to detach any kind
of information from the representation of that information by providing a
simple-to-use but powerful text-template mechanism. It offers application
developers two functions that parse "variable" expressions in text buffers
and replace them with the variable's contents. Additionally, the enduser
has numerous ways not only to insert variables into his template files but
to modify the variables contents on the fly, do full-blown regular
expression search-and-replaces, or loop over the contents of arrays of
variables. These variables are not limited to "environment variables". The
programmer is free to provide a callback function to libvarexp that will be
used to map a variable name to its contents. Thus, the variables your
application provides can reside completely internally.

differs from typical sort utilities in providing greater flexibility in
parsing the input into records and identifying key fields and greater
control over the sort order. Records need not be single lines of text but
may be delimited in a number of ways. Key fields may be selected either by
position or by tag. For each key an arbitrary sort order may be specified.
The sort order may contain multigraphs. In addition to the usual
lexicographic and numerical orderings, msort supports sorting by date,
time, and string length. Any or all keys may be optional. For optional
keys, the user may specify how records missing the key field should
compare to records in which the key field is present.
Changes: The manual page and option listing (but not the reference manual)
erroneously indicated that date format is a global setting. This has been
corrected to show it as key-specific.

About: Nest is a secure IP VPN tunnel for FreeBSD. It connects two LANs
over an insecure WAN. Nest works on the IP packet level. Its features
include packet authentication and integrity checking (with 96-bit
SHA1-derived HMAC), packet encryption (with Blowfish and 160-bit key CBC
mode), replay protection, adjustable packet queuing, and compression. The
VPN traffic appears on the WAN as a bidirectional stream of IP packets or
as a unidirectional ICMP request/response stream. The latter case allows
the establishment of VPN tunnels through certain firewalls.
Changes: A #define to make the program silent was added. A bootable

[098] - wxWidgets 2.6.0 (Stable)
by Robert Roebling (http://freshmeat.net/users/wxgtk/)
Fri, Apr 22nd 2005 09:47
Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks
About: wxWidgets is a cross-platform C++ GUI library, offering classes for
all common GUI controls as well as a comprehensive set of helper classes
for most common application tasks, ranging from networking to HTML display
and image manipulation. wxWidgets uses native widgets on all platforms
whenever possible and fills missing gaps on some platforms using generic
controls written with wxWidgets itself.
Changes: Support for GTK+ 2.4 file dialogs, printing through GNOME print
libraries, support for GNOME panel applets, improved theme support, better
HIG support (default button ordering and look), shaped frame windows,
bitmaps with alpha transparency and raw pixel access, more complete HTML
support, STL-like container classes, a complete set of archive (ZIP, gzip,
etc) classes, improved socket support, a new build system with the library
split into independent sub-libraries (including non-GUI wxBase), improved
Unicode support (text streams and filenames), and a wxCrashReport class
for debugging.

Software Development
Text Editors
About: wyoEditor is a cross-platform editor based on the Scintilla editor
component. The editor has the usual features like fast editing, unlimited
undo/redo, syntax colouring, and folding for many different programming
languages. It also has a class browser, currently only for C++, and keeps
the class/function display updated. The editor allows editing of files in
tabbed notebook pages and/or separate top level windows. It supports
context-sensitive help of any kind of documentation (e.g. programming
framework descriptions) if provided as help files. The editor conforms to
the wyoGuide guidelines using the wxWidgets framework.
Changes: The help and localization files were reworked again. "Find
previous" has finally been added, as well as some other options.
Application information (About ...) has been overhauled, and some minor
bugs have been fixed. wxScintilla has been updated to Scintilla 1.63.
