Processing Corpora with Python and the Natural Language Toolkit
by Stuart Robinson
(http://www.mpi.nl/world/persons/profession/robstu.html)
Section: Tutorials
Sat, Apr 23rd 2005 00:00
In this tutorial, we're going to look at how Python can be put to work in
the manipulation and analysis of corpora. Corpora (the plural of corpus)
are collections of written texts or spoken language, usually structured in
some way to facilitate their automatic processing.

About: Crogai is a mix of crowd simulation, artificial intelligence, and
genetic algorithms. It is possible to set up simulations and test
different AI in a full 3D environment with a small physics engine,
terrain, collision handling, etc. Crogai is inspired by the OpenSteer
projet and uses steering behaviors as building blocks for the AI. The
agents can graze, hunt each other, and emit spores for reproduction. A
genetic algorithm allows the agents to evolve, and let them decide whether
to do so or not. In addition, the examples provided by the project make

Changes: A bug that caused XML to be parsed incorrectly has been fixed.
Some new functionality has been added to the GfxDriver class. The
GUISystem and GUI::Entry classes have been added. Some more code has been
modified to use GfxDriver function calls instead of directly calling GL

[017] - Internet DJ Console 0.0.4.2
by Stephen Fairchild (http://freshmeat.net/users/psoriasis/)
Sat, Apr 23rd 2005 12:17
About: Internet DJ console makes it possible for people to connect to a
Shoutcast or Icecast server and be a DJ. It is intended to be something
that the bedroom DJ will want to and enjoy using, and not just be a tool
for streaming music to the Internet. It facilitates live radio shows with
DJ chatter and supports cross-fading for dance mixes.
Changes: This release adds many graphical and functional refinements. The
player is more responsive to track changes and seeks within a file. The
volume and crossfader are now smoothed. CPU usage is down to sane levels.
Some nice graphics have been added to replace some of the labels. A race
condition which caused the server to try connecting to the mixer before
the mixer had properly started, causing the server code to exit, has been
fixed. The window title now reflects what is playing. There are far fewer
audio dropouts. The encin and encout pipes are no longer needed.

[018] - IridiumFlares 0.6 beta
by Emmanuel ZURMELY (http://freshmeat.net/users/emmanuelz/)
Sat, Apr 23rd 2005 03:47
Scientific/Engineering :: Astronomy
About: IridiumFlares is an application that can predict the flares made by
the constellation of the communication satellites known as Iridium. A flare
is a very bright phenomenon that occurs when the light of the sun or the
moon is reflected by one of the satellites' antennas.
Changes: The moon can now be used as a light source to compute moonlit
flares. The antenna that causes the flare, the distance, and direction of
the flare center have been added to the results. The computation of the
estimated magnitude has been enhanced to take account of the range and
illumination of the satellite. The elements can now be updated from a
SpaceTrack account. A configurable list of ignored elements has been
added, containing the satellites that produce no observable or predictable
flares. The computations are parallelized on multi-processors platforms.
