Terminals :: Terminal Emulators/X Terminals

About: Anyterm provides a terminal emulator on a Web page using Javascript
and an Apache module. The module forks a shell and communicates with the
script using XMLHTTP on port 80, or securely using SSL. This provides you
with shell access to your machine from almost any Web browser, even when
firewalls are in the way.

Changes: This version tries to sanitise the environment inherited by
spawned processes, tidies up process termination, and improves error
reporting.

[004] - aspell-da 1.5.0 (Experimental)
  by Jacob Sparre Andersen (http://freshmeat.net/users/sparre/)
  Mon, Apr 25th 2005 03:28

About: aspell-da is an aspell dictionary for spell-checking Danish texts.
It is based on "Den store danske ordliste" (The Comprehensive Danish
Dictionary).

Changes: This series of DSDO (and thus also "aspell-da") contains words
that are possibly more correct, but has a dictionary that is somewhat
smaller and will report more correct words as misspellings. It should
probably only be used if you are reasonably good at spelling (but not
quite as good at typing).

  Mon, Apr 25th 2005 21:56

Other/Nonlisted Topic
Software Development
Software Development :: Build Tools

About: AutoGen is a tool designed for generating program files that
contain repetitive text with varied substitutions. Its goal is to simplify
the maintenance of programs that contain large amounts of repetitious text.
This is especially valuable if there are several blocks of such text that
must be kept synchronized. Output is specified with a Scheme-enhanced
output template. Input, if required by your template, may come from
AutoGen definitions, CGI data, or XML files.

Changes: This release cleans up the portable fmemopen implementation and
incorporates the new AutoOpts.

  by Bruce Korb (http://freshmeat.net/users/bkorb/)
  Mon, Apr 25th 2005 22:02

Software Development
Software Development :: Code Generators
Software Development :: Libraries

About: AutoOpts is an integrated part of AutoGen. Based on a very simple
option description file, it will process configuration files, environment
variables, command line options, text strings passed by client programs,
and will make the results easily accessible to the client program. It will
also produce a man page and the info-doc invoking section automatically.

Changes: Large pieces have been rewritten so the library may now be used
as a stand alone configuration file parser. In doing that, the regular
interface has been enhanced so options may now take arguments containing
name/value pairs like those used by "getsubopt(3C)".

  Mon, Apr 25th 2005 01:56

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Code Generators

About: CodeWorker is a versatile parsing tool and a universal source code
generator. It interprets a scripting language for producing reusable,
tailor-made, evolving, and reliable IT systems with a high level of
automation. The file formats to parse are described in an extended-BNF
syntax. Template-based scripts drive the writing of patterns for
generating code or text. The code generation knows how to preserve
protected areas with hand-typed code and provides code expansion,
source-to-source translation, and program transformation. It provides a
native translation of CodeWorker's scripts in C++.

Changes: It is now recommended that variables be declared before use in
the scripting language. A warning is displayed if they are not, and an
error message will be displayed in future versions. A bug with the
#nextStep BNF operator was fixed and allFloatingLocations() and
addToDate() functions were added.

[012] - Conary 0.50.13
  by Michael K. Johnson (http://freshmeat.net/users/johnsonm/)
  Mon, Apr 25th 2005 15:36

Software Development :: Version Control
System :: Archiving :: Packaging
System :: Installation/Setup

About: Conary is a distributed software management system for Linux
distributions. It replaces traditional package management solutions (such
as RPM and dpkg) with one designed to enable loose collaboration across
the Internet. It enables sets of distributed and loosely connected
repositories to define the components which are installed on a Linux
system. Rather than having a full distribution come from a single vendor,
it allows administrators and developers to branch a distribution, keeping
the pieces which fit their environment while grabbing components from
other repositories across the Internet.

Changes: A flavor path is now implemented for more seamless multilib
operation. This release automatically creates a :data component for
/usr/share, and has a new ComponentRequires policy that implements
automatic intra-package inter-component dependencies. The Run build action
can optionally (but not by default) interpose a libc wrapper that
intercepts filename-based operations to work around bootstrapping problems
in programs.

  Mon, Apr 25th 2005 01:48

Information Management
Security
Security :: Cryptography

About: cpm (Console Password Manager) is a small console tool to manage
passwords and other sensitive data and store them in a public-key
encrypted file. It also allows you to configure the whole hierarchy
yourself, so it's easily adoptable for many requirements. The encryption
is handled through GnuPG, and the data inside is stored as XML.

Changes: A severe bug in the tar archive that made it impossible to
compile the source was fixed. control.in and the gettext files were
included, and a check was added so this won't happen again. Mssing
resource file parsing for the 'CrackLibCheck' flag that was already in the
example resource file but not yet supported was fixed. A CTRL+W shortcut
for saving the database and a status line were added.

  Mon, Apr 25th 2005 03:30

Information Management :: Document Repositories
Information Management :: Issue Tracking
Information Management :: Workflow Frameworks

About: CRM-CTT allows you to create entities to which you can attach
files, place alerts, prioritize, etc. It is multi-lingual and
customizable. It can be used for any department in which something comes
in, must be handled, and goes out, such as bug tracking, systems
management (including assets) or helpdesk call tracking. It creates
management information and exports in PDF and Excel, and reports and
invoices in RTF format. Installation is done using a simple script, and a
clear manual is included. It's available in all major languages.

Changes: Most known issues were fixed. Extra fields can now be given a
default value, and complex searches can now be bookmarked on the summary
page for later use. Authenticated mail servers and alternate mail methods
(like directly to sendmail) are fully supported. Some new event trigger
types were added, and the administration page got a makeover. Extra field
definitions and global settings can now be imported and exported, and
users can now also be imported using a CSV file next to the CRM-specific
import files.

[027] - JUCE 1.10
  by jules (http://freshmeat.net/users/julesRMS/)
  Mon, Apr 25th 2005 14:35

Software Development :: Libraries :: Application Frameworks

About: JUCE is an all-encompassing C++ class library for developing
cross-platform applications. It's particularly good for creating
highly-specialised user interfaces and for handling graphics and sound.
The intended users are developers who are building large, complex
applications in C++ and who would like to use just one clean, high-level
API rather than a bunch of different libraries for different purposes or
platforms. Its features include fully lightweight components with
transparency and effects, classes for strings, containers, XML, streams,
file handling, messaging, and event queues, vector graphics, a custom font
engine, image manipulation, OpenGL support, low-latency audio I/O using
CoreAudio, DSound and ASIO, audio buffers and nodes, MIDI file and event
manipulation, Internet streams, undo/redo support, and more.

Changes: The major change in this release is that it contains the first
Linux build of the library. There are still a few bits missing from the
Linux support, but the basics are there and the demo app runs. There are
several enhancements and new classes in this release, such as
FilenameComponent, ReadWriteLock, SplashScreen, and LocalisedStrings.

[028] - Kernel-Machine Library 0.1
  by Rutger ter Borg (http://freshmeat.net/users/rutger21/)
  Mon, Apr 25th 2005 10:28

Scientific/Engineering :: Artificial Intelligence
Software Development :: Libraries

About: The Kernel-Machine Library is a C++ library to promote the use and
progress of kernel machines. It is both for academic use and for
developing real world applications. The Kernel-Machine Library draws
heavily from features of modern C++ such as template meta-programming to
achieve high performance while at the same time offering a comfortable
interface. It enables compile-time selection of specialized algorithms on
the basis of data types: for example, the specific case of a SVM in
combination with a linear kernel can be computed by a specialized
efficient algorithm.

Changes: Currently available methods are the Support Vector Machine,
Relevance Vector Machine, Kernel Recursive Least Squares, and Adaptive
Sparseness using Jeffreys Prior.

[057] - PyUID 1.0.3
  by Eleventh Hour (http://freshmeat.net/users/xihr/)
  Mon, Apr 25th 2005 16:16

Utilities

About: PyUID provides an implementation of a "unique" ID (UID) generator
in Python. The implementation does not follow UUID or GUID standards, but
rather uses available system, host, user, shell environment, process, and
other ephemeral information fed into a hasher to generate the UID. The
system is designed to be used both as a standalone application and as a
module. The data used to be fed into the hash, as well as the hashing
mechanism itself, can be overridden both through the command line and
programmatically by importing the module.

Changes: Uses pwd and grp modules to get password and group data instead
of calling os.getlogin, which won't work for fake users who are not logged
in (like nobody).

[063] - splitpipe 0.3
  by ahu (http://freshmeat.net/users/ahu2/)
  Mon, Apr 25th 2005 01:39

System :: Archiving

About: Splitpipe accepts the streamed output of a program such as tar on
standard input and distributes it over multiple output volumes. These
volumes contain labels that guarantee integrity, verify that the entire
volume is read, and that they are read in the proper order. Combined with
the built-in ring buffer, this allows for the high speed backup of full
filesystems to DVD or CD.

Changes: A split-screen output was added so that output from cdrecord,
dvdrecord, and friends don't mess up the program's own output. The buffer
is now filled even while waiting for user input. A problem where twice as
much memory as specified was being used was fixed. Portability to Solaris
was added. Output volumes now contain the date they were generated as well
as an optional user-provided label. RPM and DEB packages are now provided.
Joinpipe now prompts users to insert the proper volume on encountering an
out of order or foreign volume.

[065] - Stunnix Perl-Obfus 2.7
  by Stunnix (http://freshmeat.net/users/stunnix/)
  Mon, Apr 25th 2005 15:39

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Site Management
Software Development :: Compilers
Software Development :: Pre-processors

About: Stunnix Perl-Obfus is a unique solution for protecting your
valuable intellectual property from possible Perl source code
piracy/studying/rework. It's an advanced and extremely reliable obfuscator
for the Perl source code. It converts the Perl source files (.pl and .pm)
into highly mangled and obfuscated forms, making them extremely difficult
to study, analyse, reuse, or re-work for competitors or customers, while
fully retaining functionality of the original source code. It's not a
compiler to machine code, and the obfuscated form will still be the usual
Perl source code, and so will work on all platforms the original source
worked on.

Changes: Sheebang line (#/usr/bin/perl at the top of Perl scripts) is now
correctly handled when obfuscation is performed on Windows (only a Unix
newline separates that line from rest of the code). The result of
obfuscation does not confuse Unix kernels now (they seem to not understand
Windows line breaks in scripts at all; Linux and FreeBSD do). The most
recent version of the Stunnix Perl Web Server is used now for running the
Project Manager GUI interface, which gives it improved stability.

About: SurrealServices is a full replacement
NickServ/ChanServ/MemoServ/OperServ. Features are loosely based on Anope

as a TOR detector/banner, and a country detector (checks IP allocation). It
is multithreaded to eliminate lag due to the asynchronous nature of MySQL
and DNS lookups. Plans include a C version and possibly a conversion to
PostgreSQL, depending on demand from users.

Changes: This release fixes botserv bots not rejoining after a netsplit,
race-condition adding timers, a spurious 'permission denied' in /cs info,
and various other bugs. By default, it removes chanop on joining if you
have no channel access, but has an option to keep chanop.

About: Frink is a calculating tool and programming language designed to
help you in the real world. It tracks units of measurement throughout all
calculations and ensures that answers are correct. It converts between
systems of measurement and has a huge library of physical data. It handles
conversions between time zones, currencies, and historical values of the
U.S. dollar and the British pound, translates between several languages,
does date/time math, and more.

Changes: Shorter names were added for many currencies, making it possible
for just the name of the currency (such as "yen") to be used. Language
translations now work under the combination of Java 1.5 and Java Web Start
with its different HTTP handling. Conversions that used the -> operator
where the right-hand side was a function with a return statement were
fixed. Some cases of setting the display units so that some legal
expressions wouldn't produce an error were corrected. The performance of
prefix checking for units was improved.
