[001] - /etc/net Scripts 0.7.3
  by Pilot (http://freshmeat.net/users/infrastation/)
  Tue, Apr 26th 2005 06:55

System :: Boot :: Init
System :: Networking
System :: Systems Administration

About: /etc/net represents a new approach to Linux network configuration
tasks. Inspired by the limitations of traditional configuration
subsystems, /etc/net provides builtin support for configuration profiles,
interface name management, removable device support, full iproute2 command
set support, interface dependency resolution, and a QoS configuration
framework. /etc/net provides support for the following interface types:
Ethernet, WiFi (WEP), IPv6/IPv6 tunnels, PSK IPSec tunnels, VLAN, PLIP,
Ethernet bonding and bridging, traffic equalizer, Pent@NET, usbnet, and
PPP. Due to its modular design, support for new interface types can be
added without overall design changes.

Changes: A bug in network.init and a bug in ifplugd start were fixed.

System :: Monitoring
System :: Systems Administration

About: Chronic is a constraints-based opportunistic application-level
scheduler. Unlike cron, which schedules according to a time
specification, it schedules tasks when specified constraints are met. In
other words, it schedules during a window of opportunity when the
circumstances are favorable.

Changes: "Ping" constraint was introduced. The constraint sends a single
ICMP ping to a given address, and is considered met if an ICMP packet is
successfully received. "Concurrent'' constraint was introduced. The
constraint keeps a tab on the number of concurrent processes of a
specified application. A "safe_sleep'' time was introduced at the end of
the scheduler's while() loop. This stops the scheduler to go into a tight
loop every time there are a few microseconds of latency between task_wait
and Freq constraint.

[012] - CollaborativeRank 0.1.2
  by Amir Michail (http://freshmeat.net/users/amir/)
  Tue, Apr 26th 2005 03:31

Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Indexing/Search

About: CollaborativeRank is a utility to collaboratively improve the
quality of Google rankings. It weighs a user's ranking suggestions based
on how helpful and timely the user's suggestions are, determined by others
subsequently making the same ranking suggestions. CollaborativeRank also
allows users to associate additional URLs, which are not currently
returned by Google, with a query.

Changes: This release adds Unicode support (allowing you to associate a
URL with a query in a different language). Related queries now show the
most common form of the query (rather than the query words in alphabetical
order as was done in the previous version). The number of Google results
that are combined with the local search results is now only limited by the
Google API license (whereas this number was limited to 10 URLs in the
previous version). The CollaborativeRank measure was also changed (see the
paper on the site) and some cosmetic changes were made to the Web UI.

of the field wins. It can be played vs. an AI or another human.
Internationalization is available. The game is also a demonstration of
Lazarus's capabilities.

  Tue, Apr 26th 2005 07:09

Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Systems Administration

About: DB Solo is a powerful database development and management tool for
developers and DBAs. It has an intuitive user interface that allows you
to explore and manage your database objects as well as execute ad-hoc
queries. It supports Oracle, MySQL, Sybase, DB2, and MS SQL Server. In
addition to viewing and managing objects such as schemas, tables,
indexes, views, tablespaces, users, roles, sessions, and stored
procedures, you can view, edit, print, and export data from tables or the
results of queries. You can also graphically view foreign key
relationships.

Changes: Explain plan output can now be viewed as a graph under the "Plan"
tab of the query panel. The graph view provides the same information as the
tree-table view. Steps of the execution plan are shown as vertices, and
directional edges show the order of the steps. Both graph and treetable
views can now be printed. Explain plan support has been added for
Microsoft SQL Server in addition to earlier Oracle support.

About: Floranta provides tools to build collaborative real-time discussion
boards, notice boards, and extended chat services that can be embedded in
Web pages. It also includes extreme programming tools that allow users to
create index cards, drop them on tables and move them, and conduct a
distributed planning game collaboratively in real time.

Changes: This version introduces Wiki integration. Users can now insert a
space to glue notices or pin index cards on a regular Wiki page. The cards
can be moved and manipulated collaboratively. It is also possible to open
chat clients anywhere on the Wiki. The FlorantaPlugin.zip file unzips into
a TWiki install and comes with fairly detailed installation instructions.
It should be possible for anyone who has installed or worked with a TWiki
before to install and use it.

Games/Entertainment :: Real Time Strategy
Games/Entertainment :: Turn Based Strategy

About: Freeciv is a multiuser reimplementation for Unix/X of the famous
Microprose game of Civilization. By default, the game is an improved Civ
II, but this can be customized; modpacks for near-100% compatibility with
Civ I and Civ II are included. Multiuser gameplay is real-time: in each
turn, all human players move concurrently. The game is designed to remain
fairly playable even on poor network connections. Freeciv can also be
played on standalone machines, and its AI players are a good challenge for
beginners. The source code comes with the server, two X clients, and non-X
clients for MS Windows and Amiga. Freeciv is released under the GNU
General Public License. It is maintained by an international team of
coders and enthusiasts, and is easily one of the most fun and addictive
network games out there.

Changes: This version includes several bugfixes from Freeciv 2.0.0,
including one major fix to the easy and novice AI difficulty levels.

About: Gujin is a PC boot loader which can analyze your filesystems. It
finds the Linux kernel images available, as well as other bootable
partitions (for *BSD, MS-DOS, Windows, etc.), and displays a graphical
menu for selecting which system to boot. Because it understands the
structure of Linux kernel images, Gujin does not need LILO and can even
load very big kernels. There is no need to execute anything after making a
new kernel: just copy the kernel image file into the "/boot" directory.
Gujin is written almost entirely in C with GCC, and it fully executes in
real mode to be as compatible as possible.

Software Development

About: JGraph Layout Pro is the next generation of graph layout engine
designed for optimal performance with the open source JGraph core. It has
flexibility and a simple design, enabling you to use circular, tree, and
force-directed layouts with ease in your JGraph application. It comes with
an application note and an example applet that demonstrates features such
as auto-layout, collapsing/expanding of grouped cells, graph morphing, and
selective laying out of sub-graphs.

Changes: A switch, positionMultipleTrees, was added to the tree layout to
enable multiple trees to be laid out without lapping.
JGraphFacade.getCells only returns connected edges, as unconnected edges
cause incorrect results in all layouts. A fix was made to the morphing
functionality to resolve an incompatibility with JGraph 5.4.7. A number of
corrections were made to the application note.

[055] - pf1337 0.0.2
  by iGN (http://freshmeat.net/users/ign/)
  Tue, Apr 26th 2005 08:02

Multimedia :: Graphics :: Capture :: Digital Camera
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Graphics Conversion

About: pf1337 is a visual workflow creator and editor. It provides a
visual interface to connect modules in a graph. It includes the
PhotoPartner plugin, which easily allows you to do batch processing of
images. Batch converting RAW images is supported.

Changes: This release adds an autopackage installer. Loading and saving
workflow graphs is now fully functional in the host if running Mono from
SVN. All plugin modules might not be completely implemented, so use with
caution. Minor feature enhancements were made, so ImageStorer now supports
JPG and PNG, but TIFF will most likely fail silently. The autopackage does
not include Db4o or FlickrNet, but this will be included in the binary
install when it works better.

About: PySquiLA is a Squid log analyzer. It was started due to frustration
with existing tools that generate static pages and graphs while sometimes
what you need is 'how my users used the proxy for the last 15 days'. The
data of Squid's access.log is inserted into a MySQL database. This
database is used by the CGI part of PySquiLA to generate on-the-fly graphs
and tables, with a great degree of liberty in choosing how, when, and what
you need to know.

Changes: First release with some functionality and graphics/tables for top

[065] - SOPE Application Server 4.4beta.6
  by OpenGroupware.org (http://freshmeat.net/users/helge5/)
  Tue, Apr 26th 2005 05:24

Software Development :: Libraries
Text Processing :: Markup :: XML

About: The SOPE package is an extensive set of frameworks (16 frameworks,
~1500 classes) which form a complete Web application server environment.
Besides the Apple WebObjects compatible appserver extended with Zope
concepts, it contains a large set of reusable classes: XML processing
(SAX, DOM, XML-RPC), MIME/IMAP4 processing, LDAP connectivity, RDBMS
connectivity, and iCalendar parsing. The parts of the package can be used
stand-alone (e.g. in Cocoa applications) and do not require the appserver
parts. For MacOSX developers, the package includes SOPE:X, which contains
special Xcode and Cocoa support for SOPE.

Changes: A major last minute change is the inclusion of a working MySQL
adaptor for sope-gdl1. Some minor issues were fixed, like some to/cc
generation issue in NGMime (bug #1324), a fix to submit button handling,
and some fixes to improve XHTML compliance.

  Tue, Apr 26th 2005 07:41

Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: t-prot (TOFU Protection) is a filter which improves the readability
of email messages and Usenet posts by hiding some of their annoying parts.
The annoyances it handles include mailing list footers, signatures, TOFU,
sequences of blank lines, and repeated punctuation. TOFU is an acronym
that stands for "Text oben, Fullquote unten", a German reference to the
practice of adding just a few lines of original text and quoting a
complete message below them.

Changes: The handling of mailing list and commercial footers in raw
MIME/Multipart messages was fixed.

About: This Tiny Vector and Matrix template library uses Meta Templates
and Expression Templates (ET) to evaluate results at compile time, thus
making it fast for low-end systems. Temporaries are avoided because of
this. The produced code is similar to hand-coded code, but the quality of
the code still depends on the compiler and its version. The dimensions for
vectors and matrices are static and bounded at compile time using template
arguments.
