[001] - Allegro 4.2.0-beta2 (Development)
by Grzegorz Adam Hankiewicz (http://freshmeat.net/users/gradha/)
Sun, May 1st 2005 07:27
Games/Entertainment
Multimedia :: Graphics
Software Development :: Libraries
About: Allegro is a multi-platform game library for C/C++ developers that
provides many functions for graphics, sounds, player input (keyboard,
mouse, and joystick), and timers. It also provides fixed and floating
point mathematical functions, 3D functions, file management functions,
compressed datafile, and a GUI.
Changes: A problem with the makefile in Windows, a bug that prevented true
color fonts from working, a possible deadlock in dialog_message(), a bug
where the DJGPP version would choke on a missing variable, a problem with
incorrect dependencies being generated for Mac OS X, a problem in X11 if
the XRGBACursor extension was missing, a bug where hardware cursors would
stop working, several problems with the Windows keyboard driver, and a bug
in Unix dependency generation were fixed. The GUI does not mess up the
hardware cursor anymore. A new packfile example is available.

About: Cascade Select is a class to generate two HTML form select type
inputs, making the currently selected value on the first input determine
the option values that are made available on the second. It uses

input from data defined by arrays, and also an example that retrieves the
option values from MySQL database query results.

[010] - Database Bean Generator 2.0.2
by jespo (http://freshmeat.net/users/jespo2005/)
Sun, May 1st 2005 13:22
Database
Software Development :: Libraries :: Java Libraries
About: Generator is a command line application to facilitate the
construction of small applications that need some database objects. It
isn't a replacement for complex object persistence solutions, like
hibernate or TopLink, but it covers a different target: the little Java
Web applications that don't use sophisticated persistence options.
Generator invocation is simple: just type java -jar generator.jar -xml,
where the config file is an XML config file with the definitions to
connect to the database and generate the bean classes. You can also use
the Ant task.
Changes: Now finders returns the Parent class and not the Skel (generated
class). Finders with a void where clause generates well now. The behaviour
for NULL fields has been corrected. The createWithId in Oracle is done, and
now works with sentences. Extra raw code has been added to the class via
the configuration file. Some minor issues and bugs have been fixed.

Sun, May 1st 2005 13:17
System :: Operating System :: Linux Distributions
About: slakbootEBS is a software development kit for the automated
creation of bootable embedded systems based on Slackware and Busybox. The
focus is on i486 and ARM systems that use compact flash devices (handhelds
and PC104 type boards). The distribution consists of a primary archive with
tools, scripts, and documentation, and additional archives for the i486 and
PXA250 binary components.
Changes: Many changes and enhancements to the content. You can run one of
the several make scripts and produce a bootable Slack CF in less than 5
min. The distribution was converted to 7 archives, because of size, to
make it easier to download. A user will need the 'base' archive and at a
minimum, the part 'a1' and 'a2' archives for their CPU architecture of
choice.

by Manuel Lemos (http://freshmeat.net/users/mlemos/)
Sun, May 1st 2005 22:20
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: The MIME Email message class composes and sends MIME encoded email
messages. It features user-definable headers and body parts, support for
plain text and HTML body, headers with non-ASCII text, HTML messages with
embedded images, file attachments with content type detection, forwarding
of messages as attachments, setting the error delivery address with the
Return-Path header, and sub-classes for different delivery methods: mail,
SMTP, Qmail, Sendmail, and Microsoft IIS or Exchange pickup folder. It
also supports sending personalized bulk mail by replacing the message
parts that differ for each recipient.
Changes: The QuotedPrintableEncoding function was fixed to make it start
encoding from the beginning of words with characters that need to be
encoded and so avoid header rendering bugs in Microsoft Outlook. A test
suite script was added for verifying that the quoted printable encoding
support is working as expected. The composition of message headers that
represent e-mail addresses was changed to avoid bugs in some e-mail
clients.

[040] - Plash 1.7
by mseaborn (http://freshmeat.net/users/mseaborn/)
Sun, May 1st 2005 16:45
Security
About: Plash (the Principle of Least Authority Shell) is a Unix shell that
lets you run Unix programs with access only to the files and directories
they need to run. In order to implement this, the filesystem is
virtualized. Each process can have its own namespace, which can contain a
subset of your files. Plash is implemented by modifying GNU libc and
replacing the system calls that use filenames. For example, open() is
changed so that it sends a message to a file server via a socket. If the
request is successful, the server sends the client a file descriptor.
Processes are run in a chroot jail under dynamically-allocated user IDs.
No kernel modifications are required. Existing Linux binaries work
unchanged.
Changes: This release extends the concept of executables so that
executables can be objects as well as data files. In this new case,
execve() works by invoking the object with a method call. This feature
provides fine-grained control over how processes are constituted. It is
similar to chroot() environments under Linux, but much more lightweight
and flexible, so that it can be used on a per-program basis.

by miasmatic (http://freshmeat.net/users/miasmatic/)
Sun, May 1st 2005 04:46
About: Rubix is a Linux distribution that is something of a fork of
Slackware. It is designed to support mission critical hardware and be very
admin friendly. It uses Arch Linux's pacman for simplified package
management with dependency resolution. It has a revamped init system,
maintaining the BSD style, but adding modularity. It compiles most
packages with SSP (a.k.a. ProPolice) and PIE (Position Independent
Executable) wherever possible, but does not patch software just to make it
compile with SSP and/or PIE. This means that Rubix should not be thought of
as a hardened distribution, as many packages cannot be compiled with SSP,
but it does mean that Rubix is harder than most. This logic makes most
software more secure and does not require downstream patching for
compatibility.

converted into accelerations, which are then integrated to velocities and
positions. This gives X-Plane the most realistic flight model available
