[001] - Achievo ATK 5.2
by Ivo Jansch (http://freshmeat.net/users/ivoibs/)
Mon, May 2nd 2005 16:14
Database :: API
Database :: Front-Ends
Information Management
About: Achievo ATK is an object oriented Web-application framework. It is
targeted at developers who wish to focus on business logic instead of
coding HTML. Where other application frameworks mainly provide a large set
of utility classes, ATK provides a complete framework that requires only
small amounts of code to get usable applications, while maintaining full
flexibility. In other words, even 10 lines of code get you a working
application, but everything that is generated for you can be completely
customized.
Changes: A new WYSIWYG editor (FCKEditor) and a Unit Test framework
(SimpleTest) were integrated. A MySQL4.1+ driver was added.
OneToManyRelations can now be sorted and searched without additional
coding. A column aggregator was added. PDA support was added. Many
attributes have been extended, and several other new features were added.
Many bugs were fixed.

[002] - aMule 2.0.0
by Kry (http://freshmeat.net/users/ElKry/)
Mon, May 2nd 2005 21:54
Communications :: File Sharing
About: aMule is short for "all-platform eMule-like file-sharing program",
or, in short, "all-platform Mule". It's a port of the well-known eMule P2P
client for the eDonkey2000 file sharing network, supporting most of eMule
features. Additionally, it provides a small separate Web server and
command line interface to connect to a running aMule via the network. Like
its predecessors lMule and xMule, it uses wxWidgets and runs on Linux, BSD,
Solaris, Windows, and Mac OS. It also supports multiple architectures.
Changes: aMule finally supports Linux, *BSD, Solaris, Mac OS, Windows, and
probably other untested platforms. This release includes complete Unicode
support, with compliance to the ed2k network Unicode extensions. A lot of
improvements and bugfixes were made. The core and the GUI are now
completely separate, with a functional daemon, a Web server, and a remote
GUI.

by wedesoft (http://freshmeat.net/users/wedesoft/)
Mon, May 2nd 2005 16:02
Database :: Front-Ends
About: anymeal is a cookbook database front-end. It can handle more than
100,000 recipes, and can search recipes for a given set of ingredients. It
is designed to be lean and flexible.
Changes: The units 'T' and 't' were missing in anymeal.xsd, causing
Mealmaster export to fail. The window for displaying recipe lists now
allows exporting of multiple recipes.

[004] - APSR 0.17-12
by arbon (http://freshmeat.net/users/arbon/)
Mon, May 2nd 2005 15:56
System :: Networking
About: APSR is a network testing tool designed to send and receive
arbitrary network packets. Its main purposes are firewall, security,
routing, and a lot of other tests. It can also be used to analyze your
network. The project is split into three main programs: apsend to create
and send packets, aprecv to dump the network traffic, and the apsrlib
which provides the appropriate low-level functions. A very wide range of
protocols are supported by the aprecv program. The application layer is
implemented through modules using a simple API. Modules can be written in
Perl, Ruby, C, or PCL (a special-purpose packet construction language).
Changes: Many minor bugfixes in aprecv and apsrlib. Raw socket support for
apsrlib (send and receive functions) to work with FreeBSD.

by Tom Lord (http://freshmeat.net/users/thomaslord/)
Mon, May 2nd 2005 18:41
Software Development
Software Development :: Version Control
About: arch is a modern replacement for CVS, specifically designed for the
distributed development needs of open source projects. It has uniquely good
support for development on branches (especially good merging tools),
distributed repositories (every developer can have branches in their own
repository), changeset-oriented project management (arch commits changes
to multiple files at once), and, of course, file and directory renaming.
Changes: This release fixes a number of minor bugs and adds initial
support for more extensive metadata support. People may find this version
more useful for controlling system binaries and configuration files.

[006] - Astaro Security Linux 5.202 (Stable 5.x)
by astaro (http://freshmeat.net/users/astaro/)
Mon, May 2nd 2005 06:16
System :: Networking :: Firewalls
About: Astaro Security Linux is an all-in-one network security gateway
that includes a firewall, intrusion protection, virus protection, spam
protection, URL filtering, and a VPN gateway. Features include stateful
packet inspection, deep packet filtering, application-level intrusion
detection, content filtering, virus detection for email traffic (SMTP and
POP3) and Web traffic (HTTP), whitelists and blacklists, IPSec and PPTP
VPN tunneling, spam blocking, logging and reporting. The software is built
on an embedded, especially hardened Linux distribution. The WebAdmin tool
and Up2Date service make it easy to install, manage, and update all six
security applications.
Changes: This Up2Date fixes a bug with X.509 based VPN connections and a
configuration storage problem.

[007] - Asymptote 0.76
by John Bowman (http://freshmeat.net/users/jcbowman/)
Mon, May 2nd 2005 16:18
Education
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Editors :: Vector-Based
Printing
About: Asymptote is a powerful script-based vector graphics language for
technical drawing, inspired by MetaPost but with an improved C++-like
syntax. It provides for figures the same high-quality level of typesetting
that LaTeX does for scientific text. It is a programming language as
opposed to just a graphics program, allowing it to exploit the best
features of script (command-driven) and graphical user interface (GUI)
methods. High-level graphics commands are implemented in the language
itself, allowing them to be easily tailored to specific applications.
Changes: Installation has been simplified by removing the last remaining
dependency on the boost header files. A "plabel" argument was added to
"draw". The pen arguments in the axes routines were rearranged for
consistency. Interactive TeX errors and the TeX preamble are now handled
properly. New functions "getstring", marker frame arrays, and path
computation functions were added. Problems with implicit scaling were
addressed. The "without side-effect" warning was removed. An option was
added to list all loaded global functions.

Mon, May 2nd 2005 13:16
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Software Development :: Libraries :: PHP Classes
About: Cgiapp.class.php is a port of CGI::Application to PHP. It utilizes
Smarty as its default templating engine, much as CGI::Application uses
HTML::Template, due to its prevalence and acceptance in the PHP community.
Due to PHP's built-in session support, it also adds two methods, s_param()
and s_delete(), to handle session parameters. A number of static methods
have also been included to facilitate error handling and array/hash
conversion.
Changes: This is a PHP4 compatibility release. Several stray "self::"
references have been converted to the PHP4-friendly "$this->" syntax. One
unit test used the PHP5 syntax "instanceof", and has been converted to
PHP4's "is_a()".

About: ComputeMode is a product that allows an organization HPC grid to be
extended through aggregation of unused computing resources. For instance,
ComputeMode allows a virtual cluster to be built using an organization's
employees' PCs while they are not being used. Practically, most PCs in
large companies are idle at night, on weekends, and during employee
vacations, training periods, or business trips. ComputeMode allows you to
take advantage of these available resources.
Changes: This release fixes network driver detection, a possible NFS
issue, and a possible DHCP issue. An X server has been added to manage the
server locally. The Web admin interface has been enhanced. A host/guest
Debian systems update was performed.

encrypted file. It also allows you to configure the whole hierarchy
yourself, so it's easily adoptable for many requirements. The encryption
is handled through GnuPG, and the data inside is stored as XML.
Changes: Encrypted keys are now listed in the save dialog. When using
/dev/random, a message is displayed to create more entropy in case the
program freezes. Most importantly, a wrapper script that extracts the keys
the datafile was encrypted with was added. This means that the no longer
has to remember which keys were used.

Mon, May 2nd 2005 13:26
Communications :: Email :: Post-Office
Communications :: Usenet News
Internet :: File Transfer Protocol (FTP)
About: DeleGate is a multi-purpose application level gateway or proxy
server that mediates communication of various protocols (HTTP, FTP, NNTP,
SMTP, POP, IMAP, LDAP, Telnet, SOCKS, DNS, etc.), applying cache and
conversion for mediated data, controlling access from clients, and routing
toward servers. It translates protocols between clients and servers,
applying SSL (TLS) to arbitrary protocols, merging several servers into a
single server view with aliasing and filtering. It can be used as a simple
origin server for some protocols (HTTP, FTP, and NNTP).
Changes: The SSL gateway has become about a tenth faster than former
versions, with SSL context/session cache, dynamic linking of the SSL
library, and Keep-Alive enabled for HTTPS/SSL. SSL gateway configuration
for various application protocols, including HTTP, FTP, SMTP, POP, and
IMAP, has become simple and uniform. gzip for HTTP has become faster via

About: The dump package contains both dump and restore. Dump examines
files in a filesystem, determines which ones need to be backed up, and
copies those files to a specified disk, tape or other storage medium. The
restore command performs the inverse function of dump; it can restore a
full backup of a filesystem. Subsequent incremental backups can then be
layered on top of the full backup. Single files and directory subtrees may
also be restored from full or partial backups.

Changes: This release added the ability to rename directories from the
scanner. A new field for the disc number was added to the interface. The
CDDB window was improved and uses now UTF-8 requests. The ability to read
FLAC Vorbis tags encoded into ISO-8859-1 (instead of UTF-8) was added and
the setting of character sets for ID3 tags was improved. Many bugs were
fixed, including fixes for problems with UTF-8 handling (filename, tag,

by Jesper K. Pedersen (http://freshmeat.net/users/blackieifaddk/)
Mon, May 2nd 2005 15:54
Multimedia :: Graphics
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Viewers
About: KDE Image Database (KimDaBa) is a tool for indexing, searching, and
viewing images. The indexing is done by telling KimDaBa who is on the
images, where the images were taken, and (optionally) adding descriptions.
KimDaBa is highly optimized for easy indexing of images, so that it is
possible to use it with thousands of images. It also allows you to browse
your images easily, based on the properties (person, location, keywords)
you specified when indexing.
Changes: This release introduces a date bar that shows statistics about
images, plus support browsing, and narrowing views to a given date range.
The date bar shows ranges from a year per unit down to 10 minutes per
unit. As a consequence of the date bar being introduced, all thumbnails
are now shown together, rather than as 100 thumbnails per view. In the
viewer, it is now possible to press a key to set a token. These tokens can
then be used during browsing. This makes it easy to mark all images for,
say, printing, by simply setting a token on each of them and then later
browsing for that token.

About: NuFW is an authentication firewall suite: the gateway authorizes a
packet depending on which remote user has sent it. It can also set quality
of service on a per-user basis and log user activities into a SQL database.
Furthermore, it can use an external authentication source such as an LDAP
directory and be the key of a Single Sign On solution.
Changes: This release featured bugfixes and code cleanups. The MySQL and
Pgsql log modules now log unauthenticated drops and nuauth restart is now
done cleanly in every case.
