[001] - 1060 NetKernel Standard Edition 2.0.5
  by Peter Rodgers (http://freshmeat.net/users/1060/)
  Tue, May 3rd 2005 04:32

Internet
System :: Operating System

About: 1060 NetKernel Standard Edition is an Application Server that
provides a unique service-oriented abstraction which is a convergence of
the core ideas of the Web and Unix. NKSE is a general purpose modular
infrastructure which comes with powerful and simple XML processing tools.
It may be used for SOAP 1.1, 1.2, and REST Web-Services, JMS MOM, XML
pipeline processing, general systems integration, or as a Web-application
server. The NetKernel abstraction simplifies complexity and thus increases
the scope and potential of the systems built upon it.

Changes: The Javascript language runtime has been updated to use Rhino1_6
with E4X support. E4X is a language extension to provide native XML
scripting in Javascript/Ecmascript. The xml-core library has updated Xml
Bean support. The RDBMS mobule and HTTP Client libraries have been updated
to eliminate the possibility of broken connections. Some minor revisions to
tools and document typos have been fixed.

  Tue, May 3rd 2005 04:21

Security
System :: Systems Administration

About: afick is another file integrity checker, designed to be fast and
fully portable between Unix and Windows platforms. It works by first
creating a database that represents a snapshot of the most essential parts
of your computer system. You can then run the script to discover all
modifications made since the snapshot was taken (i.e. files added,
changed, or removed). The configuration syntax is very close to that of
aide or tripwire, and a graphical interface is provided.

Changes: This release fixes many problems on the Windows operating
system, and adds two new directives keywords (allow_overload,
follow_symlinks) and a macro keyword (REPORT).

  Tue, May 3rd 2005 03:52

Internet :: WWW/HTTP
System :: Networking

About: HAproxy is a high-performance and highly-robust TCP/HTTP load
balancer which provides cookie-based persistence, automatic failover,
run-time regex-based header control, advanced logging contents to help
trouble-shooting buggy applications and/or networks, and a few other
features. Its own event-driven state machine achieves 10,000 hits per
second on modern hardware, even with thousands of simultaneous
connections. It currently lacks SSL and keep-alive, both of which are
planned.

Changes: This release fixes a nasty bug related to the epoll()
optimization where some events would not be re-armed if an fd was closed
and reassigned during the same iteration. A cleaner fix will be done in a
later version. As select() is not an option above 10000 hits/s, epoll()
users must upgrade. Non-epoll users are not affected.

[030] - libstldb4 0.3.15
  by Ben Martin (http://freshmeat.net/users/monkeyiq/)
  Tue, May 3rd 2005 07:00

Database
Software Development :: Libraries

About: libstldb4 is a C++ wrapper for the sleepycat db4 database. It uses
the STL in the API where sensible, allows standard IOStreams for data
access where sensible, e.g. getting the value of a key should be able to
use an istream interface to allow simple partial value retreival, and
moves the transaction parameter to be the last optional parameter or
provides two versions of the same method for trans/nontrans. The API has
been modified to use more standard types. Operator overloading is used to
allow quick and dirty coding (mydb[ "key" ] = "value";) to set and cerr.

Changes: A fix for AMD64 compilation was added. libtool -version-info was
changed to -release. A small gcc 4.x fix was made. lower_bound() behaves
in a STL compliant manner when a custom bt_compare is set and the key is
less than all others in the database. DB_RDONLY is now passed to db4 from
Database() constructors properly. A new overloaded operator[]() was added
for long key values. A bug in DatabaseIterator::getRecNumber() on
secondary indexes to RECNO files was fixed.

About: MailManager helps teams deal with large volumes of email by
allocating mail to the right person, providing tools to help answer it
(prioritisation, reply templates, and a knowledge base), and allowing
managers to set service levels for different types of mail and report on
performance against service levels and volumes received. MailManager is
based on Zope which is required to use it. It is cross-platform, but most
of the testing has been under Linux and Mac OS X.

Changes: The change to make sure that sending mail out is the last thing

  by Alexey Semenov (http://freshmeat.net/users/swajj/)
  Tue, May 3rd 2005 09:12

About: PTkSdict is a dictionary using Sdict dictionary format. Unlike
ptkdic or gtkdic, MySQL isn't needed; you can work with dictionary files
directly. It uses Unicode, meaning that words and articles all are in
UTF-8. There are two index levels, compression, and tools to convert from
text files to .dct and vice versa.

Changes: "cache_search_results" is now a tunable parameter. The last
dictionary is now remembered when quit. History was fixed. A lot of
cosmetic changes were made. Bugfixes were made.

[057] - Soulfind 0.3
  by SeeSchloss (http://freshmeat.net/users/SeeSchloss/)
  Tue, May 3rd 2005 04:27

Communications :: Chat
Communications :: File Sharing

About: Soulfind is a free Soulseek server program, compatible with most
current Unix clients (at least cursedsouls, PySlsk, Nicotine, and Museek).
Most features have been implemented, including "Things I like/hate", but
there's no distribution of the searches.

Changes: This version offers full support of the recommendations and
privileges systems and adds configuration options like the MOTD, server
username (for administration), or output verbosity. Usernames can no
longer use non-printing Unicode characters (to prevent username
"stealing"), and it is now possible to ban users, either directly from
the server or using the soulsetup utility.

[058] - Swing XML Authoring Tool 0.3.0
  by pmarrone (http://freshmeat.net/users/pmarrone/)
  Tue, May 3rd 2005 10:32

About: SwiXAT is a Swing-based authoring tool for the quick and easy
development of GUI Java applications. It implements a true MVC framework
and uses XML to define the view (SwiXML is used as the XUL engine),
BeanShell as a scripting language for the controller, and JXPath as the
binding mechanism between the view and model. It provides a complete
environment in which it is possible to almost write an entire Java Swing
application without writing Java compiled code. The use of XPath makes it
very simple to traverse the object tree of the application's business
model.

Changes: This release adds both model and window events management.
Support for the Groovy language has been added. It's possible to use XPath
expressions to bind UI components to the model. More examples have been
added, and the user guide has documentation about the new features.

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)

About: Sysbotz Email is a complete Web-based email client. It features a
fast and easy to use DHTML user interface. What makes it unique is its
features for enabling the organization of email in many different usage
scenarios. Email has become a primary tool for many users to distribute
messages or files, communication between two or more individuals, team
management, a to do list, and for reminders (the user will in this case
write to themself). The problem is that email clients for the most part
were originally only designed to handle the first two in this list.
Sysbotz Email's goal is to implement features to aid in the other uses
email has taken on.
