[001] - aMule  2.0.1
  by Kry (http://freshmeat.net/users/ElKry/)
  Wed, May 18th 2005 03:27

Communications :: File Sharing

About: aMule is short for "all-platform eMule-like file-sharing program",
or, in short, "all-platform Mule". It's a port of the well-known eMule P2P
client for the eDonkey2000 file sharing network, supporting most of eMule
features. Additionally, it provides a small separate Web server and
command line interface to connect to a running aMule via the network. Like
its predecessors lMule and xMule, it uses wxWidgets and runs on Linux, BSD,
Solaris, Windows, and Mac OS. It also supports multiple architectures.

Changes: This release fixes among other things, a 100% CPU usage problem
because of some misconfigured ed2k servers.

About: Andy's PHP Knowledgebase is a database-driven knowledge base
management system. It features bookmark friendly URLs, easy search with
browsing by category, article submission, and a professional and
attractive interface. It is intended to be used to store, manage, and
update article content for a knowledge base, but is very customizable and
enables any number of creative uses.

Changes: The release includes a correction to the Users table and
improvements for suggesting categories.

[003] - arpwatch NG DROP8
  by Freek (http://freshmeat.net/users/thefreek/)
  Wed, May 18th 2005 08:32

System :: Networking :: Monitoring

About: The arpwatch NG package contains arpwatch and arpsnmp. Both
utilities monitor Ethernet or FDDI network traffic and build databases of
Ethernet/IP address pairs, and can report certain changes. It is based
upon the original, but old, arpwatch package.

Changes: A new configure option was added so MAC adresses are always
printed padded with a leading zero.

[004] - balance 3.22
  by Thomas Obermair (http://freshmeat.net/users/thomasobermair/)
  Wed, May 18th 2005 08:23

System :: Networking

About: Balance is a simple but powerful generic TCP proxy with round-robin
load balancing and failover mechanisms. Its behaviour can be controlled at
runtime using a simple command line syntax.

Changes: The writelock and channelcount patches were added. The balance
exit codes were fixed. An attempt is made to automatically create
/var/run/balance if it is not already present.

  by Henrik (http://freshmeat.net/users/theiling/)
  Wed, May 18th 2005 08:36

Software Development
System :: Installation/Setup
Utilities

About: barcat is just like "cat", but displays an ASCII progress bar. Its
goal is to work on any Unix-like platform and to be directly usable in
installation scripts without needing compilation, so it is a pure shell
script.

Changes: A lot of bugfixes and robustness changes have been done. The
script was tested on quite a few OSes and in many shells. It is now
considered to be stable. Minor features were included: the main shell
function can be dumped to stdout now, and there is a configurable prefix
to the file names additional to the suffix.

  Wed, May 18th 2005 21:20

Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Shells

About: Bash.Diff is a patch against Bash that incorporates many useful
features from Awk, Python, Zsh, Ksh, and others. In the main core, it adds
the following: new brace expansion {a..b}, new parameter expansion
${var|...}, new command substitution $(=...), extended for, while, and
until loops, extended case statement, new try-block with integer
exception, and new here document <&lt+. As builtin commands, it adds the
following: sscanf(3), <string.h>, and <ctype.h> wrappers, a variety of
array and regex(3) operations, GDBM, SQLite, PostgreSQL, and MySQL
database interfaces, an HTML template engine (BASP), stack/queue
operations on positional parameters and arrays, Expat XML parser
interface, simple x-y character plot, DOS line support, and simple Awk
emulation.

Changes: This release added a ${var|[i]} variation in ${var|[a:b]} and
fixed an "off by one" error for positional parameters which start at 1.
${var|.dirname} and ${var|.basename} were added to hook into dirname(3)
and basename(3). The internal code for ${var|.method} was cleaned up.
'pp_uniq' and 'pp_collapse' loadable built-ins were added. Redundant
options in the 'array' built-in were removed.

  by Chilli (http://freshmeat.net/users/ChilliX/)
  Wed, May 18th 2005 08:54

Software Development :: Code Generators

About: C->Haskell is an interface generator that simplifies the
development of Haskell bindings to C libraries. The tool processes
existing C header files that determine data layout and function signatures
on the C side in conjunction with Haskell modules that specify Haskell-side
type signatures and marshaling details. Hooks embedded in the Haskell code
signal access to C structures and functions; they are expanded by the
interfacing tool in dependence on information from the corresponding C
header file.

Changes: Support for GHC 6.4 (with the Cabal package system) was added.

[019] - DB Solo 1.0.4
  by DB Solo (http://freshmeat.net/users/mhantula/)
  Wed, May 18th 2005 07:33

Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Systems Administration

About: DB Solo is a powerful database development and management tool for
developers and DBAs. It has an intuitive user interface that allows you to
explore and manage your database objects as well as execute ad-hoc queries.
It supports Oracle, MySQL, Sybase, DB2, Solid, and MS SQL Server. In
addition to viewing and managing objects such as schemas, tables, indexes,
views, tablespaces, users, roles, sessions, and stored procedures, you can
view, edit, print, and export data from tables or the results of queries.
You can also graphically view foreign key relationships.

Changes: A CREATE TABLE Script Generator was added, which allows you to
produce CREATE TABLE statements based on your existing tables. This allows
you take tables in one schema, generate the scripts, and then create the
same tables in a different schema. Alternatively, you could use the
resulting scripts for documentation purposes or check them into your
source control system. You can select one or more tables from your table
list and the script generator will output CREATE TABLE scripts for the
selected tables, their constraints, and indexes. Currently, CREATE TABLE
script generator is available for Oracle.

[024] - getmail 4.3.9 (Stable)

  Wed, May 18th 2005 11:40

Communications :: Email
Communications :: Email :: Email Clients (MUA)
Communications :: Email :: Filters

About: getmail is intended as a simple, secure, and reliable replacement
for fetchmail. It retrieves email (either all messages, or only unread
messages) from one or more POP3, SPDS, or IMAP4 servers (with or without
SSL) for one or more email accounts, and reliably delivers into
qmail-style Maildirs, mboxrd files, or through external MDAs (command
deliveries) specified on a per-account basis. getmail also has excellent
support for domain (multidrop) mailboxes, including delivering messages to
different users or destinations based on the envelope recipient address.

Changes: For multidrop retrievers, the way the envelope recipient header
field is parsed has been changed to prevent odd values from being
interpreted as multiple addresses when they look like an 822-style address
group. This release tries to avoid parsing message bodies in case they're
corrupt or invalid.

[025] - GNU ddrescue 1.0-pre3 (Development)
  by Antonio Diaz Diaz (http://freshmeat.net/users/ant_diaz/)
  Wed, May 18th 2005 08:28

System :: Recovery Tools

About: GNU ddrescue is a data recovery tool. It copies data from one file
or block device (hard disc, cdrom, etc) to another, trying hard to rescue
data in case of read errors. GNU ddrescue does not truncate the output
file if not asked to. So, every time you run it on the same output file,
it tries to fill in the gaps. The basic operation of GNU ddrescue is fully
automatic. That is, you don't have to wait for an error, stop the program,
read the log, run it in reverse mode, etc. If you use the logfile feature
of GNU ddrescue, the data is rescued very efficiently (only the needed
blocks are read). Also you can interrupt the rescue at any time and resume
it later at the same point.

Changes: A race condition has been fixed. This bug could result in data
not written to the output file but annotated in the logfile if the
computer crashes at the wrong moment.

About: L7-filter is a Netfilter match module which classifies packets
based on application layer (OSI layer 7) data. This means that it is able
to classify packets as HTTP, FTP, Gnucleus, Kazaa, etc., regardless of
ports. It complements existing matches that classify based on port
numbers, packet length, TOS bits, and so on. Combined with Linux QoS, it
allows for full layer 7 packet shaping.

Changes: This release updates the patterns for Skype (split into separate
patterns for Skype-to-phone and Skype-to-Skype) and Counterstrike. The
Gnutella should now match the Gnutella 2 protocol ("Mike's protocol").
Patterns have been added for the ZIP, RAR, and exe file formats. The Flash

  Wed, May 18th 2005 12:03

Scientific/Engineering
Scientific/Engineering :: Image Recognition

About: openEyes is an open-source open-hardware toolkit for low-cost
real-time eye tracking. The purpose is to provide a hardware design and a
set of software tools useful for the analysis of eye movement data.
Development stems from the recognition in the eye tracking and human
computer interaction communities that while the cost of hardware for eye
tracking has precipitously dropped in the recent past, there is lack of
freely available software to implement even long-established eye-tracking
methods. The tools available for this platform include algorithms to
measure eye movements from digital videos, techniques to calibrate the eye
tracking system, and example software to facilitate real-time eye-tracking
application development.

Changes: The real-time eye tracker was updated for increased frame rates

System :: Logging

About: The Prelude Log Monitoring Lackey (LML) is the host-based sensor
program part of the Prelude Hybrid IDS suite. It can act as a centralized
log collector for local or remote systems, or as a simple log analyzer
(such as swatch). It can run as a network server listening on a syslog
port or analyze log files. It supports logfiles in the BSD syslog format
and is able to analyze any logfile by using the PCRE library. It can apply
logfile-specific analysis through plugins such as PAX. It can send an alert
to the Prelude Manager when a suspicious log entry is detected.

Changes: It is now easier to use chained rules. Chained rules are applied
on all top inclusion. The result is an approximate 850% performance
improvement. Support for systrace, identd, arpwatch, and pure-ftpd was
added. A crash upon activation of the debug plugin was fixed. A Solaris
specific issue resulting in invalid alert detect-time was fixed. A
possible crash with a rule referencing an invalid IDMEF path was fixed. A
problem with a generated alert possibly containing content gathered from
other rules was fixed. An option namespace conflict was fixed. The
--version option was corrected.

Desktop Environment :: Window Managers

About: WindowLab is a small and simple window manager of novel design. It
has a click-to-focus but not raise-on-focus policy, a window resizing
mechanism that allows one or many edges of a window to be changed in one
action, and an innovative menubar that shares the same part of the screen
as the taskbar. Window titlebars are prevented from going off the edge of
the screen by constraining the mouse pointer. When appropriate, the
pointer is also constrained to the taskbar/menubar in order to make target
menu items easier to hit.

Changes: A segfault that occurred when removing clients was fixed. Some
cosmetic code changes were made.

scripting, and easy administrative data dictionary commands.

Changes: This release adds a new mode, new commands, command completion,
additional redirectors, and various fixes.
