[002] - Big Faceless PDF Library 2.1.4
by Big Faceless Organization (http://freshmeat.net/users/faceless/)
Mon, May 23rd 2005 09:14
Internet :: WWW/HTTP :: Dynamic Content :: CGI Tools/Libraries
Multimedia :: Graphics :: Presentation
Office/Business
About: The Big Faceless PDF Library is a Java class library for creating
PDF documents. The Extended Edition offers the ability to create and edit
AcroForms, PDF's answer to the HTML form. Like HTML forms, PDF forms can
contain text boxes, radio buttons, and can call JavaScript functions. The
Extended Edition also includes a PDF reader for importing and editing,
along with FDF support and verification for Digital Signatures. Both
variations offer full Unicode support, encryption, embedded TrueType and
Type1 fonts, barcodes, hyperlinks, spot and calibrated color. Advanced
text layout engine enables complex HTML styles. It is small, fast, easy to
use, and 100% pure Java.
Changes: Support for TIFF-JPEG images was expanded: more variants
(although not all) can now be loaded, and those containing an embedded
JFIF stream can now be embedded directly into the PDF without
recompression. More flexibility is allowed when sizing Bar codes: any
width/height/bar-ratio may be used, although a BC1 warning will be
displayed if the size is outside legal limits. A bug introduced in 2.4
where boxes would sometimes appear around form fields was fixed.
FormSignature.loadDefaultKeyStore no longer fails when the default JCE
Provider has been changed.

About: The BuildBot is a system to automate the compile/test cycle
required by most software projects to validate code changes. It builds
and tests the tree each time a change is committed, providing status
updates through a Web page or other protocols.
Changes: The 'sendchange', 'stop', and 'sighup' subcommands were broken,
and are now fixed. The 'buildbot master' command now uses raw strings to
work under Windows again. Other logfile-upgrading bugs were fixed, and the
basedir is now prepended to sys.path as it was in earlier versions.

Communications :: Email
Security
Security :: Cryptography
About: Ciphire Mail is an email encryption tool. It works in conjunction
with your existing email client. It operates seamlessly in the background
and does not interfere with normal email routines. It encrypts and
decrypts email messages, and can digitally sign each message to provide
authentication and guard against identity theft. It resides on your
computer, between your email client and your email server, transparently
encrypting/decrypting and digitally signing your email communication. It
runs on Windows 2000/XP, Linux, and Mac OS X. It is compatible with all
email clients using standard SMTP, POP3, or IMAP4 (including SSL/TLS
variants and STARTTLS support). It is free for consumers, non-profit
organizations, and the press.
Changes: A new and improved signature format (which is not backwards
compatible with older versions) was created. Customizable signature text
was added. Handling of multiple signatures was enhanced. The entire user
interface was redesigned. An account creation wizard was created. The
Ciphire options (simple mode) were cleaned up. The virus check now
supports decrypted messages. Preview of messages with IMAP4 and POP3 was
improved. Ciphire gateways and domain certificates are supported. Many
bugfixes, minor improvements, and other changes were made.

Mon, May 23rd 2005 05:23
Database :: Front-Ends
System :: Systems Administration
About: DB Solo is a powerful database development and management tool for
developers and DBAs. It has an intuitive user interface that allows you to
explore and manage your database objects as well as execute ad-hoc queries.
It supports Oracle, MySQL, Sybase, DB2, Solid, and MS SQL Server. In
addition to viewing and managing objects such as schemas, tables, indexes,
views, tablespaces, users, roles, sessions, and stored procedures, you can
view, edit, print, and export data from tables or the results of queries.
You can also graphically view foreign key relationships.
Changes: Support for Mac OS X was added. DB Solo on Mac OS X has the same
features as it has on other platforms. A CREATE TABLE Script Generator was
added for SQL Server, which allows you to produce CREATE TABLE statements
based on your existing tables. This allows you take tables in one
database, generate the scripts, and then create the same tables in a
different database. Alternatively, you could use the resulting scripts for
documentation purposes or check them into your source control system.

About: Star is a very fast, POSIX-compliant tar archiver. It saves many
files together into a single tape or disk archive, and can restore
individual files from the archive. It includes command line interfaces for
the "tar", "Sun-Tar", "cpio", "pax", and "gnutar" command-line syntax. It
includes a FIFO for speed, a pattern matcher, multi-volume support, the
ability to archive sparse files and ACLs, the ability to archive extended
file flags, automatic archive format detection, automatic byte order
recognition, automatic archive compression/decompression, remote archives,
and special features that allow star to be used for full and incremental
backups. It includes the only known platform independent "rmt" server
program.
Changes: The program now supports efficient and accurate archival of
sparse files using the new holey file interface from recent Solaris
development kernels (Nevada build 13 or newer). A bug that caused star to
list the size of the file in the archive instead of the real size when
sparse file handling was used in POSIX.1-2001 mode and the file size was
greater than 8 GB was fixed along with a bug that caused star to dump core

Internet :: Proxy Servers
About: Tor is a network of virtual tunnels that allows people and groups
to improve their privacy and security on the Internet. It also enables
software developers to create new communication tools with built-in
privacy features. It provides the foundation for a range of applications
that allow organizations and individuals to share information over
public networks without compromising their privacy. Individuals can use
it to keep remote Websites from tracking them and their family members.
They can also use it to connect to resources such as news sites or
instant messaging services that are blocked by their local Internet
service providers (ISPs).
Changes: It turns out that kqueue on OS X 10.3.9 was causing kernel
panics, so kqueue was disabled on all OS X installations of Tor. Threads
on were disabled on OpenBSD, since its gethostaddr is not reentrant.
Building on Red Hat 9.0 works again. The middle hop of the testing circuit
is now allowed to be running any version, now that most of them have the
bugfix to let them connect to unknown servers. This will allow
reachability testing to work even when 0.0.9.7-0.0.9.9 become obsolete.
