Wow, that's really interesting to know, thanks. I just ordered a new 
laptop (yay! first one in 6 years) and will be going with FC5 on it; I 
haven't had a chance to see what's in the distro. The CDs are burned and 
waiting. :)

Maybe Matthias (and others) would have a clue why this happens. I know 
that the FC4 version does not compile with some extra libraries (cairo 
and pango) that rawhide/FC5 does; perchance it's these extra libs 
slowing things down?

An interesting experiment which maybe I'll try -- grab the FC5 srpm, 
install it and comment out the pango/cairo compiles, then rebuild it. I 
honestly don't even know what those two things do.
