This new apt supports the repomd format, so eventually publishing my packages will no longer take 50 minutes, but rather 35 minutes. Apt is generally useful in an production environment where you still have EL2, EL3 and EL4 boxes around and you want a single tool to help you manage your systems. Smart is nicer in general, but only supports recent distributions.
