Hmm, I've installed gentoo on a SparcClassic with 20M of memory, booting
with a tftp image, which takes up a couple of M's, so the install just
used about 15M or 16M of memory, but with a swap partition of about 100M
it installed just fine :). (beware! the libperl ebuild wants a lot of ram
during compile, at least 40M+, on my first attempt the swap partition was
to small :)

As you can see, it runs just fine on low memory machines, it barely
touches the swap in normal (non-)usage :). The only thing it runs is a
small irc bot and the usual services (sshd, ntpd, etc.), so the load isn't
high ...
