I've just masked 2.6 headers in all profiles but the default 2005.0 profile. This way you wont end up with a 2.4 kernel + 2.6 headers which is known to cause segfaults. If you decide to use a 2.6 kernel and would like to use 2.6 headers as well you can either upgrade to the 2005.0 profile or use /etc/portage/package.unmask to unmask 2.6 headers.
