I can confirm that once I booted with the LiveCD,
a) the FS would not mount at first
b) when I ran fsck on it, it reported a bad journal, which I fixed.
c) then it mounted all right (read-only) but it has no files on it, as 
if it was freshly formatted.

Please tell me there's something I can do to get the data off the drive...
