I'll let you know; I haven't gotten very far yet. The guide
doesn't mention loading a NIC driver. Is that expected to be
automatically detected and loaded? It didn't happen on my
machine.
In addition, there are only half a dozen NIC drivers on the LiveCD.
I don't know if you have anything to do the the CD, but that's a
serious impediment to its usefulness. My alpha's card is not
supported, nor is the next one I grabbed. I transplanted the tulip
card from my PC, but that didn't work either, for some reason.
After quite an ordeal, I got the suse alpha 8139too driver on a
floppy, but the LiveCD didn't like that, because it was compiled
for 2.4.19, not 2.4.19-xfs-gentoo or whatever. (Which raises
another point -- modversions would be a very good idea for a
LiveCD.)
Anyway, I would love to give your guide a try, but I'm not sure
when (or if) I'll be able to get things going.
