3 Mbit... isn't the 640 Kbit I was using on DSL for awhile.  AFAIK 3 Mbit=
=20
was what the cable modem was capped at when I first got cable internet. =20
(Some places were 1.5 Mbit still but Cox had upgraded most of their=20
territory to 3 Mbit by that point.)  It's usable.  I just won't be able=20
to do package sources updates and watch youtube at 1080p any longer.  I=20
may not be able to do 1080p without buffering at all.  But 720p for a few=
=20
months won't kill me, especially since a lot of content is either 720p=20
original/max or 1080p still image anyway.

Makes sense.

Ultimately I want to put together an amd64-based router, as I said, in=20
ordered to be able to put gentoo on it, and build at least base packages=20
for it and my main machine at the same time.  The problem I'm hoping to=20
solve is that openwrt is great, but it's different than my main machine=20
and single purpose, so I really don't have time to learn how to master it=
=20
properly.  Similarly, when I had an x86 netbook, I had a 32-bit chroot=20
image on the main machine to build its packages, but I found it was lucky=
=20
to get upgrades once a year, which made them always a major pain.  So I=20
decided making everything amd64 based and building most packages only=20
once, was definitely the way to go.

But $50-70 for temporary solution of a few months, and as a fallback when=
=20
I do get the amd64-based router, isn't bad and can be considered a minor=20
expense associated with the temporary, especially given that I'll not be=20
having to worry about rent or utilities.  I /may/ not even worry about=20
reflashing it to openwrt, but I definitely want to keep the option open,=20
so want an openwrt compatible device.

I'll be working thru Friday, but have the weekend and early next week=20
(thru Wednesday anyway) off for the move.  So unless I simply reconfigure=
=20
the G for the first few days and see how it goes, I'll probably make the=20
trip to Fry's Sat/Sun/Mon, of course cross-checking frys.com against the=20
openwrt site to get an openwrt compatible before I go.


So there's a few more days left for recommendations if anyone else has=20
