Many people consider it very rude to post logs of IRC discussions. They
are considered by at least myself as "disposable medium" and not
designed for archive. The truth is that very little actual talk about
the installer development itself happens anymore. Usually it is more
along the lines of "Hey $dev! Fix $broken_function in
$some_installer_file when you get a chance" with little more to be seen.
I know that if there were an "official record" being kept of the
channel, I would likely stop speaking there... ;]

I have better things to do than to respond to people picking apart
things I said on IRC while I was mad or drunk. Trust me, I've
experienced it enough to know that it will happen.

Another part of the problem with discussing things on the mailing list
is that there is no other input.

If I am constantly talking to agaffney about something, why bother
posting it to the mailing list if I'm not going to get much response to
it anyway?

Look at either this list or the gentoo-releng list as prime examples of
a perfectly good "discussion list" turned into nothing more than a
glorified distribution list with very few people making any
contribution.

If you want to see more things discussed on the list, start talking
people!
