booting with lilo/grub

When I try to boot gentoo with lilo or grub, I get the "loading Gentoo.........." message, then the computer reboots.

Here's my lilo.conf

boot=/dev/hda
root=/dev/hda3
install=/boot/boot.b
map=/boot/System.map
lba32
delay=50
image=/boot/bzImage
label=Gentoo
read-only

the filesystem is xfs

Anyone know what the deal is here?
