Because there isn't a XF86Config either in Gentoo, the users create
their own.

Nah.. its there for backwards compability.
check is:
is there a XF86Config-4 ? read that
if not, check for XF86Config

only so you can havfe dual X installs with different configurations
(configureation format changed between 3.3.x and 4.x )

no other reason really.
