Re: ...boot problems...

I fixed the network problem.  I was confused, and
thought I had an on-board Intel NIC, but I actually
have a PCI 3Com (It's a Dell, never looked before :)

You pegged the XSESSION thing.  I had made a typo
while following install instructions, and I had my
XSESSION set to "XSESSION kde...", with no = between
them.  My mistake.

All is well now, thanks very much for your reply.
