Install problem - network wont start

Hi all,

I just spend a weekend unsuccessfully trying to install from the latest
LiveCD. My network wont start up. I have a D-LINK DF530TX and a
Speedstream DSL Modem. My provider is SBC/PacBell which is using PPPoE.
I found a posting somewhere describing an approach on how to use PPPoE
with Gentoo.
The only problem I seem to have now is that there is no driver for my
network card (via-rhine.o). I tried to compile it myself but it is
missing modversions.h. Can anyone suggest what I should try next?
On a side note, why does version.h say "2.4.19" when the actual kernel
on the LiveCD is "2.4.19-xfs-rc1"?
