Sorry, that's what I had meant to write. Ctrl & Alt & +/-. It should definitely work, but you must have specified multiple resolutions/depths in XF86Config. Try removing xdm from your default runlevel (or it might be kdm, not sure because I don't use this): rc-update del xdm Linux should then (upon next rebooting) give you a normal console login prompt. You can run X then by issuing "startx" and exiting your window manager will return you back to the console which you were at when X started. If you switch away from the console containing your X session in the manner that Klaus described during a live session, then Ctrl + Alt + F7 should always get you back to it. --kerframil
