PCMCIA problem

I compiled PCMCIA as a kernel module and installed.  Inside /lib/modules/ I can find pcmcia_core and yenta_socket and ds.  Insmod returns errors for all --whatever order I try, so it can't be an ordering problem.  I did "emerge pcmcia-cs" and it installed, although it claimed I'd installed pcmcia in the kernel.  cardmgr claims that there is no pcmcia driver in /proc/driver.  What to do?
