The first one is a source build. It will take several hours to install,
and you should have at least 2.5 free gigs of hard drive space.=20

The second one is a binary build--that is, the source has already been
compiled and you're installing the binary packages--it doesn't take very
long. I've had no problem with it, but others have. (On the other hand,
many folks have had trouble with the first one as well, so...)

One tip gained from the forums and my own experience--log in as root to
install it whether from binary or source--that is, don't do su to root,
log in as root--has to do with some path issues.
