Offer of Assistance and thoughts on previous threads

First, I was glad to hear about the Gentoo Server project.  I had something 
simular on my mind but I've been traveling too much this summer to really get 
serious about it.

Second, reading this:

I was inspired to offer some assistance.  Texas A&M has a OC 48+ connection to 
the Internet and our entire building is switched 100 MB ethernet.  I'm glad 
to offer to host the forums and wiki on a server here.  I should be able to 
get either a Dell 1650 or maybe even a 2650 but there is a catch - I'm under 
a spending freeze until September 1 (when our fiscal year starts).   So if 
your game, let me know and we can arrange to migrate the Wiki, forum and 
whatever over here the first week in September.  (I'm also going to poke 
around and see if I can "re-purpose" an existing server to beat that Sept 1 
deadline.)   Use the list of contact me directly if you want to further 
discuss this.

Previous Thread Thoughts:
- I agree that the stage 4 ISO is interesting, but not that compelling for me 
as I am fortunate enough to work with new hardware and compile times aren't  
that significant - especially when your not doing KDE, OpenOffice and the 
like. (I don't put XFree86 on my servers)
- I love the idea of a master install server with machine profiles.  For those 
with older hardware, perhaps a mechanism for allowing compiled binaries to be 
stored there and transerfered over to slave servers would be a good idea.  
Then you wouldn't have to put the hurt on your production server while 
recompiling a package (especially for updates).  At least the design should 
accomodate this as a future feature.
- I also think the boot floppies are a good idea.  Certainly I'd think that 
would be easier to implement that the master server (ie. a good thing to 
release while working on the master server).
- Serial console is probably good to support but I typically put in the CD, 
spend 5 minutes with KVM access to set up networking & SSH and then go to my 
desk.  Still, serial console would be very useful to others.
- The ZeroConf + LDAP is an intreging idea as well.

I'm a little busy for the next 2 weeks (expect sporatic posts like this one)  
but will be glad to help this project however I can.
