A mess in KMail

Greetings Users,

I've come a cropper with the switch from mysql to sqlite in akonadi. I 
followed the instructions to migrate, and ended up with large gaps in my 
collection of emails. Hah! I thought; I know what to do. For many years I've 
had a cron job running on my mail server, running rsync to copy my .maildir to 
backup. That directory is now 2.8GB. All I had to do was rsync back in the 
other direction and I'd have my mail back again. I did that once before, and 
once I'd pruned old stuff, sorted out expiry dates and so on, all was fine.

'Fortune favours the bold,' we're told, but Murphy's Law also applies. Now I 
have 11000 messages in gentoo-user, down from 30000 after expiring at 400 
days. Manageable, you may suppose, but I have large numbers of messages 
greyed out in the message list. Other folders have similar problems.

Any idea how I can get out of this mess? I've tried migrating back to mysql, 
but it seems to make no difference. I've also run akonadictl fsck and vacuum a 
few times, also making no difference.
