Hi Kenneth,
You can place the DIMM's as below.
A1-16GB
A2-16GB
A3-16GB
A4-8GB
A5-8GB
A6-8GB
A7-8GB

In Optimizer mode which is the BIOS default mode, it should be optimum configuration.

Subject: [Linux-PowerEdge] DIMM configuration R730XD

Hi all,

We have r730XD boxes with 1 CPU and 4 existing 8GB DIMM modules, 1 in each channel. We want to add 3 16GB DIMMS. Reading this documentation, this should be possible:

http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/SLN294489?c=us&l=en&s=bsd&cs=04

How should we add these: Should we have 3 x 16GB + 1x8GB in the first/white slots, and 3x 8GB in the black, or not?

Thanks in advance!

Kenneth
