I just checked the status of acpid and found it *wasn't* running. As 
soon as I started it, all the regular ACPI related info appeared!

Checking in /etc/init.d, I can see that acpid isn't configured to start 
at any runlevel.

Maybe this is in the install notes or a SuSE FAQ somewhere, but I never 
saw it.

I feel dumb, but happy at the same time ;-)
