Re: strange thing about rh9

You didn't mention what model you have, but you likely need ACPI in the
kernel, not APM (apmd).  You might want to install pre-built kernels from
here:
http://mirror.insue.com (source:
http://www.bardicgrove.org/~tykeal/distributables).  Serveral people
including myself have had great luck installing these and having many more
things working on our laptops.
