AC 97 AMR Modem 82801CA/CAM

I've got a Sony VAIO PCG-GRV7P, It has the Intel 82801CA/CAM AC'97 
Modem. Which I cant get to work with RedHat 9.  I've installed pctel 
0.9.6 which installs on ttyS15 and irq 255 (isnt that an odd irq to 
use). However when i load up minicom, using /dev/ttyS15 I get no 
response from the modem.

I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who has got this type of 
modem working with Linux on a Vaio.
