Re: OT: broken display - any ideas?

Forget it, buy a new laptop.

LCD's are the most expensive part of laptops.  If you buy a used laptop
of exactly the same type and do it yourself, you MIGHT be able to do it
for around $300 -- but getting all the connections in correctly is a
whole different ballgame.   Send it into Sony, if it's not still under
warranty -- you can expect about $500-700 to be the cost.

Repairing an LCD is RARELY worth the cost, it tends to always be better
to just buy a new laptop or a used laptop and be happy....  or forget
having a laptop.
