But before a recompile, or fetching a new kernel, Deepak should
check out Jack Coates post which mentioned how to
turn acpi on in Mandrake 9.1...

I'd try that before all of the things Johnathn posted because
Jacks method is substantially less work and Deepak will
still have a mandrake kernel when finished.
