don't do that. Edit /etc/lilo.conf and change acpi=off to acpi=on, then

When you get ACPI enabled, IRQ routing will work (along with other
niceties like power management and button events). Reboot with ACPI on
and then go back to the Mandrake Control Center and try again.

Power management is going to be a big deal. I have three VIA 686a Athlon
desktops, all run hotter than a Death Valley summer, all have pretty
crappy stability. I don't want to know what Sony did to manage those
tendencies in a laptop, but I damn sure wouldn't want to run that combo
without working power management. You should make getting lm_sensors
configured a priority too.
