Oh my gosh!  Didn't think that stupid little change would do much for me!  Sound card doesn't lock now!  

You wouldn't happen  to know how to solve this problem, would you:

'couldn't open audio
Please check that:
1. You have the correct output plugin selected
2. No other program is blocking the soundcard
3. Your soundcard is configured properly'

Sound mixer KMix loads up a blank screen.

In Mandrake Control Center 9.1, it says alsa is running.  It also says sound is running.  Do I need to add something to the modules.conf file?
