BWAHAHAHAHA... sorta
Finally got my service request, RMA#/etc. Yay!
Called up, "Yes, I'm just telling you now, that I'm going to have to
send in my laptop for repairs. Can we just skip to that part?" "I can
help you fix your laptop sir." "Oh, Fine." ... they had me "shutdown
your laptop. Remove your batteries. Unplug the AC Adapter for 30
seconds. Restart your laptop. Hit F2 to go to your BIOS. Hit the
right arrow twice and go to the Power Menu." My response: "What Power
Menu?"
Them: "The Power Menu"
"There is no Power Menu"
"Yes There Is"
"Excuse me, I'm looking at it, you're looking at a manual. There IS
NO POWER MENU."
"What menu's do you have available?"
"Main, Advanced, Security, Boot, Exit"
"Go to the Power Menu"
"There is no power menu..."
"Oh. What menu's are there?"
"Main, Advanced, Security, Boot, Exit"
"Ok, go to the Advanced Menu"
"Ok"
"Are you there?"
"That is why I said Ok."
"Oh... Now go down to the power option."
"There is no Power Option"
"What options are there?"
"Serial Options, Parallel Options, PS/2 Mouse, Show Logo, Sound
Volume"
"Go to the Power Option"
"I already said there is no Power Option" *I think I was starting to
get vocally annoyed at this point in time... I know I wasn't screaming
though, nobody else gave me dirty looks where I was at like they do when
I talk to point and click tech support.*
"What options are there?"
"I already read them off to you."
"Go to the Main Menu, What Options are there?"
"Set Clock, Set Time"
"No power Option?"
"No."
"Go to the Advanced Menu, What Options are there?"
"There is no power option there either."
"Are you sure? Please read off everything on the screen when you are
in the Advanced tab."
"I'm positive, but ok. *read read read read read*"
"Go to the Power Option"
"Did I read off a Power Option?"
"No"
"Then I can't go to it."
"Sir, please just go to the Power Menu. I'm going to have to
terminate this phone call if you can not follow my instructions."
"Uhmm... Ok. Where is the Power Menu?"
"Shutdown your computer and press F2 on bootup."
"Ok, there."
"Press the right arrow twice and go to the Power menu."
"Ok, I pressed my right arrow twice, I'm on the Security menu now."
"Sir, is there a power menu?"
"No"
"Sir, what Menu's do you have available?"
*repeat*
"Sir, please go to the Bootup Menu"
"Ok...there"
"What options do you have there?"
"*list drives* and I can press plus/minus to set which one is
primary/secondary/tertiary/quatiary bootup device."
"What is quatiary sir?"
"Fourth, I think... anyway. I can set precedence of boot devices."
"Is there a Power Option?"
"Did I read one off?"
"Sir, if you don't participate I will have to cut off this phone
call."
"If you do that, and I have to call back, I'm going to be very irrate
to whoever gets me next."
"Sir, please go to the Power Menu."
"I covered this already. There IS NO BLOODY POWER MENU."
*pause*
"There is no power menu, there has never been a power menu, this is
the BIOS version it shows me in the main screen, which is the original
BIOS distributed with this laptop. Is there a new BIOS version
available?"
"Let me check sir."
"Thank You."
"No, you have the most recent BIOS sir."
"Then THIS BIOS does NOT have a POWER MENU no MATTER what your stupid
point and click manual TELLS YOU!"
"Ok sir, you don't have to yell."
"Sorry, just getting a bit annoyed."
"That's understandable sir."
"Happen often?"
"Usually when people don't follow the instructions."
"Well, I can't, I followed them, there is no power menu."
"You sure?"
"Do we need to go over this again?"
*pause*
*pause*
"Please hold sir."
"Of course."
"Hello Sir, I'm Jose's supervisor."
"And?"
"And he said you were not being a cooperative customer."
"Oh, ok, pardon me while I take my clothes off."
"What sir?"
"I was being cooperative."
"What sir?"
"He asked me to take my clothes off."
Jose: "I DID NOT!"
"Ok, you're right, you didn't."
Supervisor: "Then why did you say he did?"
"Because I wanted to be cooperative. Can we get back to the issue
here?"
Supervisor: "Yes sir. Now go to the Power Menu as Jose has asked you."
"There ... IS ... NO ... POWER ... MENU .. GOT ... THAT?"
Jose: "Yes there is!"
"Excuse me, WHO is looking at the laptop right now? Me or YOU?"
Supervisor: "No need to sound annoyed sir."
"Really. If I was getting paid for this call, I would be less
annoyed."
Jose: "I doubt it..."
"Ok, so what do I do now, since there is no Power menu."
Supervisor: "Jose?"
Jose: "Yes sir, it appears that your BIOS is not what we expect with
your system and we can't help you with your problems. You will need to
send in your laptop for repairs."
"Oh good, that's what I said 43 minutes and 18 seconds ago."
Jose: "You've timed our call?"
"Yes"
".... Sir, your Reference # is XXXXXXXX, I am going to have to
send you to the repairs department so they can issue the repair order."
"Oh goody. Anotherwords I get put on hold for 30 minutes or more."
"No sir, they are quite expedious." (wow, multisyllable word at
last!)
"Supervisor, you still here, can you take care of it instead?"
Supervisor: "Yes, I mean no, I can't do that. You'll have to wait in
the Repair Queue. It's pretty short right now."
"Ok, fine, I'll wait. That Reference # was XXXXXXXX"
"Yes, forwarding your call now."
"Thanks...." 44 minutes, 03 seconds.
Machine: "Greetings. Thank you for holding. Your expected wait is 14
minutes."
*wait -- two minutes later*
Machine: "Greetings. Thank you for holding. Your expected wait is now
One hour and Twenty Three Minutes."
*groan*
It's now one hour past. So 23 minutes left -- machine just said 20
minutes left, we'll see...
Sometimes Patience is not my stronsuite. I assume the next guy will
just punch this straight through and I won't get pissed..
Alright, just thought I'd share my tech call, sorry for the list spam.
I type/log all tech calls as I go through them, minus humms and ha's --
sometimes they provide some entertaining reading later...
Alright, back to waiting *stirs pot*
