Just a thought...
As far as I can tell the GRX 500, 600, 700 all have the same hardware
except faster CPU/etc.
But when going to their respective updates sites on ciscdb.sel.sony.com
You can find their BIOS Versions:

-- Now the GRX500 series actually ahs an updated version as shown here.
The others have their original versions. One thing I think is odd is
the GRX500 version is a decidedly different filesize...
Here's the original version for the GRX500

SO, from the size comparisons, I'd say the GRX600 and GRX700 are
decidedly the same BIOS -- since they are exactly the same size with the
BIOS files. Where the GRX500 had some serious change made (not sure
what) but something.
This implies to me that the GRX600 BIOS should be upgradeable to the
GRX700 BIOS without any problems.
Unless the flash app checks bios version on flash... heh
I realize this won't solve my problem, but wondering if anyone has tried
this? Or is willing to fubar there machine by trying it ;)
At the very least we should extract them and compare the files and could
use that to find out the versions.
I wonder, does anyone know if BIOS updates also update the ACPI
system?...
