Seriously...

I don't know which distro you're running or what, if any, customizations 
you have applied to the kernel, etc.  However, I have no difficulties of 
note with SuSE 8.2 on my Vaio, and most people (yes, I did say most) who 
run that particular distro appear to be experiencing the same.  So perhaps 
it is something specific to what (and how) you're running it, or to your 
machine.

Fortunately, this mail list is chock-full of people who are extremely 
talented (and who will flame me for having given in to temptation, above) 
and helpful when it comes to resolving problems.  Therefore, I'm quite 
certain that if you provide the necessary information that would be 
required (and requested), many folks here will be willing to assist you in 
resolving your difficulties.
