Hi Douglas,

This one is one of the best Vaios IMO from the posts on the list, 
as I have had no serious problems yet (which I couldn't solve).  
By the way, RedHat 9 is not so friendly for Vaios.  You need to 
recompile a vanilla kernel with ACPI patches to get battery usage 
monitor and other stuff.  I couldn't get a nice hibernate, not 
almost nobody could.

Devices that I have tested and configured to work under Linux:

- ACPI, means power button, lid closure, battery monitor, CPU temperature
- Optical drive, I can write CD-Rs, but didn't tried writing DVDs 
yet.  Reading DVDs?  Perfect.
- Sound and Ethernet, being on Intel chipset, they are supported 
perfectly.
- Fn buttons, I configured them using sonypi module and my 
tailored rsjog.
- CPU SpeedStep, I love this one.  I use a tailored CPUDynD to 
dynamically set CPU speed on need.
- Touchpad and USB Mouse, work out of the box.
- TFT Display and Graphics, autodetected correctly, 1600x1200.  
With a 2.6 kernel I get hardware acceleration for granted.
- USB works perfect.

What I never tested, but I believe they would work too:
- PCMCIA slot.  It's detected.
- Memory card reader.
- Internal modem.  Should need hsf drivers.
- FireWire.  It's detected and I can load modules with no 
problem, but I don't have anything to test with.
