Well, that was it, I was looking in the wrong place. The "network configuration" thingie in the Control Center only listed the Ethernet. The icon in the taskbar showed the available wireless networks. Thank you for pointing out what I should have known, and thanks to Basil for pointing me in the right direction to find and install the firmware.
