David, You shouldn't have to touch xorg.conf directly with SuSE. Go into YAST, touch 'hardware' on the GUI menu, touch 'graphics hardware & monitor'. 'Change', 'color & resolution', 'properties', 'resolution'. This gives you a nice long list of choices, of which 1440x900 is one. Saving out of that menu edits xorg.conf. I just did this with a new Dell Latitude D810 which has a 1680x1050 screen. The only hard part was finding the spec (Dell is almost as uncommunicative on this score as Toshiba). Once I had the numbers right, it worked first time. SuSE is fairly good on this score, but I haven't seen ability to probe this kind of data automatically yet??
