Hi,
Here is my log message : linux pppd[8040]: unrecognized option '/dev/modem'
When I was changed modem configuration with YAST and set modem device to '/dev/ttyACMx' same error is logged.
But when i was changed modem device to '/dev/ttySx' following error is logged :
linux pppd[8171]: Plugin passwordfd.so loaded.
linux pppd[8171]: pppd 2.4.3 started by root, uid 0
linux wvdial[8172]: WvDial: Internet dialer version 1.54.0
linux wvdial[8172]: Initializing modem.
linux wvdial[8172]: Sending: ATM1
linux wvdial[8172]: Sending: ATQ0
linux wvdial[8172]: Re-Sending: ATM1
linux wvdial[8172]: Modem not responding.
linux pppd[8171]: Connect script failed
linux pppd[8171]: Exit.

althought my phone line is work properly in windows !

First thing, look at your logfile (/var/log/messages), and see what more 
it tells you. Second, could you have been having trouble with your phone 
line?
