However, I am also a proponent of the idea that the most important thing for a new user is that he / she end up with a working system and the least amount of aggravation. Mandriva will do the job for you, but I honestly feel that you will have a better first experience with Ubuntu, since it seems to be designed for the laptop / desktop only market. This is not to say that you won't have a learning curve because you wil -- but it will be less steep with Ubuntu. John
