Li-Ion lose capacity due to ageing, they have a limited life even if you 
never use them.

Storing them in a warm place and full charged accelerates the ageing, it 
doesn't matter if you are using it or not. Of course, if you "store" the 
battery in your computer (fully charged) and near that cool ("notice the 
irony") pentium 4, ageing may accelerate considerably.

So connecting or disconnecting the battery doesn't make any difference, 
the important things are the actual charge (full charge bad, 40% good) 
and temperature (hot bad, cool good).
